    • A connector includes a catch having an end with an engaging member, a housing having a cavity and a supporting member, and a locking member. The supporting member is a bottom side of the housing. The locking member is positioned within the cavity and has a first position and a second position. The cavity and the locking member have a first configuration when the locking member is in the first position and a second configuration when the locking member is in the second position. The first configuration is configured and arranged to receive the end, and the second configuration is configured and arranged to engage the end thereby locking the catch. The end is engaged in the second configuration between the supporting member and the locking member, and the supporting member of the housing provides a surface upon which the engaging member exerts force should a fall occur.

    • A first end (111) of a metal strip (110) is separated into first and second tabs (120, 130) which are connected in series between first and second members. At least one line of interruptions (117) extends along an intermediate portion (114) of the strip (110) from a point of separation between the tabs (120, 130) and a point proximate a second, opposite end (112) of the strip (110). The second end (112) of the strip (110) is coiled inside the intermediate portion (114) of the strip (110), so that tensile force applied to either of the members is absorbed both by tearing of the metal strip (110) and uncoiling of the metal strip (110).

    • An energy absorber comprises an intermediate portion interconnecting a first end and a second end. The intermediate portion and the first and second ends are on the same plane. The intermediate portion includes curved portions configured and arranged to deform and begin to straighten when subjected to a pre-determined load to absorb energy from the pre-determined load. Should a user fall, the energy absorber will deform (begin to straighten) to absorb energy from the fall. Optional pins prevent material from getting caught in the energy absorber, assist in stiffening the energy absorber, and assist in pre-stressing the energy absorber so that it will not open up when subjected to a load less than the pre-determined load. Optional tabs and slots or protrusions and notches prevent material from getting caught in the energy absorber.
