    • A woven industrial fabric for filtration and conveyance comprises at least one set of weft yarns, and one set of warp yarns, comprising a plurality of groups of warp yarns. Each group comprises an identical number of at least two warp yarns. For each group the warp yarns together follow an identical coplanar path; are retained in lateral adjacency to provide a profile comprising a profile height above exposed adjacent portions of the weft yarns in the product conveying surface, the profile height being between 50% and 100% of a height of each warp yarn in the group; and are dimensioned such that a ratio of a width of the group in the product conveying surface to a height of the group is at least 2:1. The profile provides improved embossing properties to impart topography to sheets carried by the fabric in formation or through air drying.

    • A seaming element for joining opposed ends of woven or nonwoven industrial textiles, textiles including seaming elements, and methods of making a seam area for textiles. The seaming element comprises a continuous filamentary structure, configured as first and second layers of aligned looped segments, each segment of one layer being connected to adjacent segments of the other layer by a connecting portion. The seaming elements can be bonded directly to the fabric edges, or inserted into the fabric so that free ends of the looped segments engage and are secured by selected MD yarns or components. Connecting portions of complementary elements when interdigitated together define a continuous channel to receive a pintle. The seaming element is readily and securely installed in the textiles, and overcomes problems of alignment of fabric ends for securing a seam, while minimizing any disruption in fabric properties adjacent the seam area.

    • A single layer papermakers fabric comprises machine direction (MD) warp yarns interwoven with cross-machine direction (CD) weft yarns to a repeating weave pattern requiring N sheds in the loom, N being an integer and at least 4. Each warp yam follows a path, in the paper side surface comprising four segments in each pattern repeat. In each of the first and third segments, the warp yarn interweaves with three consecutive weft yams to form a double warp knuckle, and in the second and fourth, segments, the warp yarn forms respectively a first and second MD float having unequal float lengths, at least one of the MD floats being over at least N consecutive weft yarns. The fabrics provide high air permeability, and increased surface contact area, stability and seam strength, and are particularly suitable for use as forming fabrics and through air dryer fabrics for tissue and towel products.

    • A machine side layer weave design for use in woven composite fabrics, particularly papermakers forming fabrics having differing weave designs on each planar surface is provided. The composite fabric is comprised of two sets of weft yarns interwoven with at least one system of warp yarns. A first set of weft yarns is interwoven with the at least one system of warp yarns to form the paper side layer, while the second set of weft yarns is interwoven with the at least one system of warp yarns to form the machine side layer. In each repeat of the machine side layer weave design, at least 50% of the warp yarns pass under two adjacent weft yarns on the machine side of the fabric to form a double warp knuckle, and each double warp knuckle is bounded on either side by a single warp knuckle formed on each of the first and second weft passed under by the double warp knuckle. Further, in each repeat of the weave, each weft yarn is passed under by two adjacent warp yarns to form two adjacent single warp knuckles. In one embodiment, all of the warp yarns form double warp knuckles; in an alternate embodiment, 50% of the warp yarns form double warp knuckles. The knuckles are evenly distributed across the machine side surface so as to minimize any propensity for guiding. The machine side layer weave design of the invention is suitable for use in any composite fabric and is effective in minimizing or eliminating fabric edge curl, a problem common in fabrics of this type.

    • A double layer papermakers' fabric that is particularly suitable for forming or through-air drying (TAD) of high bulk tissue and towel product is provided. The fabric includes a single warp yarn system interwoven with three weft yarn systems such that: a first of the weft yarn systems is located on the paper side (PS) surface of the fabric; a second of the weft yarn systems is located on the machine side (MS) surface of the fabric; and the third weft yarn system is located intermediate between the first and second weft yarn systems. The yarns of the first and second weft yarn systems are interwoven with the warp yarn system such that they are vertically stacked with respect to one another in the fabric. The yarns of the third weft yarn system are interwoven so as to be located in a central plane of the fabric that is intermediate of the first and second weft yarn systems, and each yarn of the third yarn system is located in between the vertically stacked pairs of weft yarns of the first and second weft yarn systems. The warp and weft yarn systems are interwoven according to an asymmetric design which provides generally rectangular pockets on each of the PS and MS of the fabric with the yarns of the third weft yarn system forming the "bottom" of each pocket. There may be from about 50 to 750 pockets per sq. in. of fabric, each ranging in depth from about 0.1mm to about 1.0 mm in depth; these pockets impart unevenness to the fabric surface which assists in creating bulk in the sheet formed or conveyed thereon. The fabrics of the invention also offer low sheet contact area, typically less than 30% of the total fabric surface, and generally in the range of from 15% to about 20%. The fabrics are also highly air permeable to ensure good air flow and drainage of the sheet.
