    • The present invention refers to an aqueous coating composition comprising aqueous binder latices, the latices prepared by emulsion polymerization in the aqueous phase, comprising the steps: 3) preparing an acid functional (meth) acrylic resin from at least two olefinically monounsaturated, polymerizable monomers by polymerization in organic solvent, and neutralizing the acid groups of the formed polymer and inverting into water or by emulsion polymerization and neutralizing the acid groups of the formed polymer, and 4) aqueous emulsion polymerization of at least one olefinically unsaturated, polymerizable monomer, in the presence of the product obtained in process step 1). The aqueous coating composition of the present invention are based on the aqueous binder latices which are usable as binders providing when combined with hardeners (crosslinking agents) and/or special solvents a number of fine and coarse grain structures of gloss, semi-gloss and/or matt coated surfaces.

    • The present invention provides a process of powder coating aluminium substrate surfaces comprising the steps a) pre-treating the aluminium substrate surface by a color-less chemical treatment process, b) applying a clear powder coating composition based on at least one (meth)acrylic resin and at least one resin selected from the group consisting of polyester resin and polyurethane resin providing a low gloss of the cured coating in the range of 1 to 20 gloss units at 60°, and curing the coating composition. The process according to the invention makes it possible to provide a desired special effect of the coated surface which meets the effect resulted using the anodizing process, called as "anodizing effect". A one-layer coating of the substrate is possible providing additionally a high appearance and smoothness of the cured coating, a strong adhesion to non-primered aluminium substrate surfaces as well as an excellent hardness, corrosion- resistance, weather resistance and light fastness of the cured coating.

    • This disclosure relates to process for producing titanium dioxide pigment having reduced chlorides, comprising: a) reacting titanium tetrahalide vapor, rutile-forming agent and at least a stoichiometric amount of oxygen in a reactor to form a gaseous suspension comprising titanium dioxide particles; b) introducing silicon tetrachloride into the reactor at at least one point downstream of the point of contact of the titanium tetrahalide, the rutile forming agent and the oxygen, and where at least 97% of the titanium tetrahalide has been converted to titanium dioxide to provide a substantially uniform encapsulation of pyrogenic Siθ2 on the titanium dioxide; c) passing the gaseous suspension to a cooling conduit; d) introducing scouring material, typically selected from the group of calcined titanium dioxide and compressed titanium dioxide, and mixtures thereof, into the cooling conduit; wherein the particles of the scouring material have a diameter in the range of about 0.25 mm to about 12.7 mm and forming a cooled product having a solid and a vapor phase; e) separating the vapor phase from the cooled product to form a powder comprising the titanium dioxide particles, and a content of chlorine- containing material ranging from about 500 to about 3000 ppm of oxychloride, and the scouring material; and f) subjecting the powder to substantially uniform heating at a temperature of about 2000C to about 6000C, in the presence of moisture, to reduce the content of chlorine- containing material to less than about 60 ppm oxychloride; wherein the moisture present is in at least a stoichiometric amount with the oxychloride.
