    • A hearing aid (30) comprises a microphone (71), a signal processing means (20) and an output transducer (22), and the signal processing means (20) comprises a set of audio processing parameters mapped to a set of stored noise classes (12) and means (8) for classifying the background noise for the purpose of optimizing the frequency response in order to minimize the effects of the background noise. The hearing aid may further comprise a neural net for controlling the frequency response. A method for reducing a noise component in a signal is also devised, which method comprises classification of the noise component, comparing the noise component to a set of known noise components, and adapting the processed audio signals according to a corresponding set of frequency response parameters.

    • The present invention relates to a CAD/CAM system for design and manufacture of a hearing aid housing comprising a face plate and a shell that is matched to the auditory canal of a user, the system being adapted to receive and process data representing the shape of the auditory canal, forming a three-dimensional model of the shell based on the data, and outputting data representing the model for production of the shell and the face plate based on the model. Manufacture of the face plate includes at least one automatic processing step based on data from a CAD/CAM model of the hearing aid housing. For example, data relating to the circumference of the face plate may be provided to a numerically controlled machine that automatically cuts a separately manufactured face plate along the desired contour that matches the circumference of the corresponding shell. In another embodiment, the hearing aid housing is manufactured with an integrated face plate.

    • A system for providing a talk-over functionality from an attendant to a hearing aid user comprises a hearing aid (4), a link device (5) connected to the hearing aid (4), a computer (7) with a talk-over microphone (9), and a communication link (6) linking the computer (7) to the link device (5), the hearing aid (4), and the link device (5) being positioned in a sound-proof box (1). The computer (7) is adapted for receiving signals from the microphone (9), and for executing audio processing software for processing the microphone signals for converting them into compressed, digital audio signals and transmitting these signals via the communications link (6) to the link device (5). The link device (5) is adapted for decompressing the received signals and converting them into audio signals to be served to the hearing aid (4) in real-time. The system enables an attendant or a hearing aid fitter to talk to a hearing aid user via the communication link (6). This may, for instance, be useful when the hearing aid user is acoustically isolated from the fitter during fitting of the hearing aid (4). The invention provides a system and a method for providing a talk-over functionality.
