摘要： Oil is recovered from a mercury containing oily solids by mixing the solids with at least a treating agent selected from selected from flocculants, sulfidic compounds, demulsifiers, and combinations thereof, and optionally a solvent, forming a mixture. The mixture is then separated to recover a first phase containing treated oil having less than 50% of the original amount of mercury in the oily solids, and a second phase containing treated solids having a reduced concentration of mercury. In one embodiment, the oily solids are selected from drilling muds; oily sediments coating inside of pipelines; sediment deposits on crude oil tanks, vessels, and separators; surface coating on equipment; slop oil from upstream operations; oily solids from heavy oil processing operations; abradants; solids recovered from processes for removing mercury from hydrocarbon materials; filter-aid materials from mercury removal operations; spill clean-up materials; and mixtures thereof.

摘要： Trace amount levels of heavy metals such as mercury in crude oil are reduced by contacting the crude oil with a sufficient amount of a reducing agent to convert at least a portion of the non-volatile mercury into a volatile form of mercury, which can be subsequently removed by any of stripping, scrubbing, adsorption, and combinations thereof. In one embodiment, at least 50% of the mercury is removed. In another embodiment, the removal rate is at least 99%. In one embodiment, the reducing agent is selected from sulfur compounds containing at least one sulfur atom having an oxidation state less than +6; ferrous compounds; stannous compounds; oxalates; cuprous compounds; organic acids which decompose to form CO 2 and / or H 2 upon heating; hydroxylamine compounds; hydrazine compounds; sodium borohydride; diisobutylaluminium hydride; thiourea; transition metal halides; and mixtures thereof.

In one embodiment, the method comprises: providing a steel composition containing up to 0.35% of C, 0.30 to 3.5% Si, up to 1.2 % Mo, up to 1.35 % Mn, up to 5% Al, less than 12.0 % Cr, balance of Fe and unavoidable impurities; forming a structural component conforming to prevailing industry standards with respect to design, fabrication, inspection and testing, metallurgical and mechanical properties. The structural equipment has a corrosion rate of less than 15 mpy. In one embodiment, the equipment is formed from a steel composition has a carbon equivalent of less than 0.63, requiring no post weld heat treatment ("PWHT"). In another embodiment, the CE is less than 0.45, requiring no preheat nor PWHT.

摘要： A method to dissipate heat build-up in a structural component is disclosed. In one embodiment, the structural component is a composite pipe for carrying a hot fluid, e.g., petroleum products. The method comprises providing a protective sheath disposed around the structural component and forming an air space between the structural component and the sheath. The sheath has at least two gaps on its surface, with the gaps being sufficiently spaced apart to allow air flowing through the air space from one gap to another to dissipate heat build-up from the hot fluid contained within the structural component. In one embodiment, an intumescent material is applied near the gaps, which material expands when heated to a temperature in a fire to effectively close the gaps and protect the structural component from the fire.

摘要： A method for reducing mercaptan concentration in a crude oil is disclosed. The method comprises contacting the crude with a treating solution comprising a hypochlorite solution, whereby the mercaptan sulfur is oxidized and converted to at least one sulfur oxoacid or salt thereof, yielding a treated crude oil having less than 50 ppm mercaptan sulfur and residual chloride. The treated crude oil containing residual chloride is brought in contact with a caustic solution at a molar ratio of caustic to chloride of 0.05:1 to 1:1, generating an upgraded crude oil with less than 50 ppm chloride. In one embodiment, the spent treating solution is recycled to form a regenerated hypochlorite stream for use in the treatment solution.

摘要： A catalyst and a process for making a catalyst from a precursor composition containing rework materials are disclosed. The catalyst is made by sulfiding a catalyst precursor containing 5 - 95 wt. % rework material. The catalyst precursor employing rework materials can be a hydroxide or oxide material. Rework can be materials generated in the forming or shaping of the catalyst precursor, or formed upon the breakage or handling of the shaped catalyst precursor. Rework can also be in the form of catalyst precursor feed material to the shaping process, e.g., extrusion process, or catalyst precursor material generated as reject or scrap in the shaping process. In some embodiment, rework may be of the consistency of shapeable dough. In another embodiment, rework is in the form of small pieces or particles, e.g., fines, powder.

摘要： A catalyst with low volumetric shrinkage and a process for making the stable catalyst with low volumetric shrinkage is disclosed. The catalyst is made by sulfiding a catalyst precursor containing at least a Group VIB metal compound; at least a promoter metal compound selected from Group VIII, Group HB, Group HA, Group IVA and combinations thereof, having an oxidation state of either +2 or +4; optionally at least a ligating agent; optionally at least a diluent. In one embodiment, the catalyst precursor is first shaped then heat treated at a temperature of 50°C. to 200°C. for 15 minutes to 12 hours, wherein the catalyst precursor has a low (less than 12%) volumetric shrinkage after exposure to at least 100°C for at least 30 minutes, e.g., in sulfidation or in a hydrotreating reactor. In one embodiment, the catalyst precursor has an essentially monomodal pore volume distribution with at least 90% of the pores being macropores, and a total pore volume of at least 0.08 g/cc. In one embodiment, the catalyst is suitable for hydrotreating heavy oil feeds having a boiling point in the range of 343°C. (65O°F.) - to 454°C. (850°F.), an average molecular weight Mn ranging from 300 to 400, and an average molecular diameter ranging from 0.9 nm to 1.7 nm.

摘要： Trace element levels of mercury in crude oil are reduced by first passing the crude oil through a filtration device to generate filtered crude having a reduced concentration of mercury and a reject stream having a concentrated mercury level. In one embodiment, the filtration device is back-flushed to generate the reject stream. In another embodiment, the reject stream comprises a portion of the retentate from a cross-flow filter device. The reject stream is treated with an extractive agent selected from tetrakis (hydroxymethyl)phosphonium sulfate; tetrakis(hydroxymethyl) phosphonium chloride; an oxidizing agent; an organic or inorganic sulfidic compound to extract a portion of the mercury into a water phase for subsequent removal. In one embodiment, the extractive agent is a reductant to convert non-volatile mercury into volatile mercury.

The catalyst is characterized as having multiple phases for enhanced HYD and HYL activities, and outstanding HDN and HDS performance.
