    • Selection of a subset of time-frequency resources, for autonomous mode operation of V2V UEs, are carried out in the context of 3GPP LTE device-to-device, D2D, direct mode communication mechanisms. This may be performed based on measurements of power and received sidelink control information (SCI) transmitted by the other UEs. Based on these measurements and information, wherein priority information from the traffic of other UEs is obtained, the UE may selectively exclude spectrum resources, from the set of possible resources, according to a predetermined power threshold, to obtain a final set of resources from which the UE may select resources to use for own transmissions. The applied power threshold is determined according to various criteria. In some implementations, the exclusion of the resources may be based on an iterative operation in which a power threshold value is incrementally modified until a candidate number of resources are available. Additionally, in others, UE own priority assignments and other UEs' priority assignments may be used to select the power threshold value applied to select or not a particular resource unit.

    • Downlink spectral capacity of an eMBMS cell to be maximized for the eMBMS users. In one embodiment, supplementary eMBMS cells may be used together with a primary cell, in which the supplementary eMBMS cells broadcast only eMBMS content and the primary cell is used for uplink and downlink signaling. The primary cell may perform signaling for the corresponding supplementary cells. In this manner, signaling relating to configuring of the eMBMS cells may be offloaded to the non-eMBMS primary cell and eMBMS specific services can be fully utilized from the eMBMS cells. In a second embodiment, an eMBMS cell may be a standalone eMBMS cell that is not associated with a primary cell. In this embodiment, self-contained eMBMS signaling is defined. Additionally, eMBMS data may be broadcast in specified MBSN subframes. In this manner, a device, such as an eMBMS-only device, can independently receive eMBMS services.

    • A closed loop MIMO feedback system is described in which the number of available antenna ports is less than the number of antenna elements. In one implementation, sounding reference signals, received from a number of UEs, may be used, by a base station, to generate and transmit a number of OFDMA Channel State Information Reference Signals (CSI-RSs). The OFDMA CSI-RSs may be determined based on the top eigen beams associated with an average channel covariance matrix determined based on the received sounding reference signals. A UE, in response to receiving the OFDMA CSI-RSs, may determine a preferred eigen beam and transmit a quantized version of the preferred eigen beam back to the eNB. Subsequent communications with the UE may be made using beamforming techniques that are based on the quantized version of the preferred eigen beam.
