    • A composition for use in extending a molecular chain includes a carrier group and a payload group. The carrier group comprising a signaling group and a blocking group. A first bond bonds the payload group to the carrier group and a second bond bonds the signaling group to the blocking group. The first and second bonds are selectively cleavable such that the first bond is cleavable without cleaving the second bond. The payload group is to be attached to the molecular chain, while the blocking group is to block further attachments to the molecular chain once the payload group has been attached. The signaling group comprises a photon emitter that emits a signature photon in response to interrogation by an interrogatory photon. The carrier group transitions from a loaded state to an empty state upon cleavage of the first covalent bond.

    • A system for a frictionless access control automatically identifies users and enables access to restricted areas of a building for example via access points such as locked doors. The system allows access when authorized users are in the vicinity of doors without requiring the users to swipe access keycards (or badges) at keycard terminals located at the doors. The system includes user devices such as key fobs and mobile phones that wirelessly broadcast user information and unique IDs for each of the devices in data packets, which are received by positioning units. The positioning units determine locations of the user devices, and send the packet data and the location data to a verification and tracking system. Preferably, the positioning units include two or more antennas that determine close proximity of users to access points while also allowing the system to continuously monitor the locations of the users.

    • An optical detector system comprises a hermetic optoelectronic package, an optical bench installed within the optoelectronic package, a balanced detector system installed on the optical bench. The balanced detector system includes at least two optical detectors that receive interference signals. An electronic amplifier system installed within the optoelectronic package amplifies an output of at least two optical detectors. Also disclosed is an integrated optical coherence tomography system. Embodiments are provided in which the amplifiers, typically transimpedance amplifiers, are closely integrated with the optical detectors that detect the interference signals from the interferometer. Further embodiments are provided in which the interferometer but also preferably its detectors are integrated together on a common optical bench. Systems that have little or no optical fiber can thus be implemented.
