    • The invention locates impaired sections of a pipeline, such as sections where the wall of the pipeline has been weakened or thinned. It provides a moveable device which passes through the pipeline and which has a first station. The moveable device has means to locate its position accurately. There is a second station, which is mounted either on the moveable device or in association with a fixed location on the pipeline wall. Either the first station or the second station has an acoustic or seismic pulse generator, and the other has a pulse receiver. The time taken for a pulse to travel from the pulse generator to the receiver is found to vary with the condition of the pipeline wall at the location where the moveable device is located at the time it receives (or sends) the pulse. The rate of change of velocity of the pulse as the device passes different locations in the pipeline is also found to vary with the condition of the pipeline wall at such location.

    • A system for overlaying an broadcast channel in a Wavelength Division Multiplexed Passive Optical Network (WDM-PON). A remote node of the WDM PON includes a MUX/DEMUX for demultiplexing a Wavelength Division Multiplexed (WDM) signal and supplying respective wavelength channels to each one of a plurality of channel fibers; an optical power splitter for supplying the broadcast channel to each one of a plurality of distribution paths; and a respective optocoupler connected to each distribution path, each optocoupler coupling the broadcast channel into one of the channel fibers. The broadcast channel has a wavelength that is outside at least a wavelength band of downlink signals of the WDM signal. An Optical Network Terminal (ONT), which is connected to one of the channel fibers, includes a triplexer for separating the broadcast channel from at least a downlink wavelength channel of the WDM-PON.

    • Discloses a panel wall construction and fastening system for attaching curtain wall sections to a building structure. The curtain wall sections inter-fit to provide a sealed weather resistant enclosure of a building. The curtain wall panels attach to the perimeter edges of the floor sections of the building using shelf angle supports. Adjustment means interconnecting the curtain wall panels to the shelf angle supports facilitate alignment and positioning of the curtain wall sections with each other. A preferred curtain wall panel configuration provides a male female interconnection of adjacent curtain wall sections. A brick cladding system is disclosed which provides a support and attachment structure to lay a brick cladding around the curtain wall. The brick cladding system includes a support rail to support a course of bricks and brick tie channel attachable to the exterior of the building to which individual brick ties are mounted as brick laying occurs.

    • A method and system for reducing the frequency of operation for a transversal Finite Impulse Response (FIR) filter is disclosed. In the preferred embodiment, the transversal filter operates in such a way that it has an even and odd row of data, which are latched on rising and falling edges of the clock respectively. This allows the clock frequency to be reduced by a factor of 2, and thus allows the use of more power efficient latches. A reduction in the frequency of operation causes the high speed latches within the transversal filter to hold the data bits twice as long as is required, which changes the desired impulse response of the FIR filter. A circuit is required to select the appropriate data bits from the output of the appropriate half-speed latch, and subsequently scale it to apply the co-efficient gain. Each of the subsystems is analog, and operates in accordance with a synchronous clock system. In a more general embodiment of the invention, the data is provided to Q shift registers that operate at a clock rate which is reduced by a factor of Q.
