摘要： Electronic access control of a seldom-used outdoor security enclosure (16), such as a key vault (18, 20), is provided by a vault lid (18) and key system (12) whereby the procedure for opening the enclosure occurs in two stages. One stage is a low-force stage provided by electromechanical mechanisms (figs. 2, 3) housed within the lid and energized by a relatively low power source (32). The high-force stage is provided by a human operator applying manual force (74) to open the lid. The system is particularly adapted for security enclosures that are exposed to an outdoor environment and not operated for extended periods of time.

摘要： A lock mechanism having a mechanical combination lock and an electronic lock, wherein the mechanical combination lock serves for effecting a fail safe entry in case of failure of the electronic lock. More specifically, the lock mechanism includes a mechanical combination lock having a bolt-retracting linkage (145) which is tripped by inward movement of a dial into a first operative relationship with a driver on the drive spindle. An electronic latch prevents bolt retraction by this bolt-retracting linkage when in the first operative position until the electronic latch has been operated. However, when the tumblers of the lock have been aligned and a gate bar enters the tumblers, the bolt-retraction linkage is caused to assume a second operative relationship with the driver so as to permit bolt retraction despite the latching effect of the electronic lock.

摘要： An electronic security system (10) includes an electronic lock device (12) and an associated electronic key (14). The electronic lock device includes a number of operational features, such as counters to monitor usage. The electronic key (14) also includes a number of operational features, such as packet-formatted audio download of key data using a piezoelectric transducer (150); codes that can be updated early without invalidating existing codes; and a tracking memory (148) that identifies the lock devices with which the key has communicated. When this tracking memory becomes full, operation of the key may be impaired. The impaired key can then only be re-enabled by downloading the tracking data from the key memory. The lock and key units cooperate to provide still additional operational features, such as a selectively-enabled, vandalism-resistant lockout list; a secure challenge-response security mechanism; and bilateral data/power exchange between the two units using just a single pair of conductors.
