摘要： The isolation of at least one water soluble glycoside comprising an aromatic moiety group conjugated to mono-, di-, and trisaccharides from hop plant parts other than hop cones is disclosed. A glycoside preparation made by extraction of hop plant leaves with an aqueous alcohol was discovered to confer a pleasant grape flavor to the beer to which the glycoside preparation was added. The glycoside composition of the glycoside preparation made from aqueous alcohol-extracted hop plant leaves was found to differ from a similar preparation made from hop cones.

摘要： An antibacterial packaging material including a layer comprising matted cellulosic fibers is disclosed. The layer comprising matted cellulosic fibers has opposed surfaces, and a hop acid selected from alpha-acids, beta-acids, and mixtures thereof is dispersed in the fibers and between the opposed surfaces. A coating of polymeric material (e.g., a polyolefin) may be disposed on the layer comprising matted cellulosic fibers to provide a coated material. The antibacterial packaging material is useful in that the growth of gram positive spore-forming bacteria such as Clostridium and/or Bacillus (e.g., Bacillus anthracis) within or on the material is inhibited. In another form, a hop acid is disposed on at least a portion of one of the surfaces of the layer comprising matted cellulosic fibers. A coating of polymeric material is disposed over the hop acid and at least over a portion of one of the surfaces of the layer comprising matted cellulosic fibers.

摘要： Disclosed are methods for the production of light stable hop products, useful for the brewing of beer or ale to be stored in clear or green glass containers, which beer or ale will not develop objectionable flavor as a result of exposure to light. Light stable hop products are prepared by double extraction of liquid/supercritical CO 2 extracted hop solids with ethanol to remove alpha/iso-alpha-acids. Such alpha/iso-alpha-acids may be further removed from the ethanol extraction filtrate obtained in the double extraction process by subjecting such filtrate to an ion exchange medium, or precipitation by a metal ion, heavy metal ion, or alkali metal ion, or hydrogenation to provide an alpha/iso-alpha-acids free filtrate which may be added to the light stable double extracted hop solid residues obtained in the initial double extraction process.

摘要： An apparatus for detecting the absence of a metal vent tube (28) from a bottle filling machine (10) comprises a nozzle (52) that produces a stream (56) of electrically conductive liquid which strikes the vent tube. A solenoid valve (62) controls the flow of liquid to the nozzle and is activated by a control signal from the controller of the bottle filling machine. The apparatus also includes a generator (66) which produces a signatured signal that is applied to the nozzle. A detector circuit has an input coupled to the frame of the bottle filling machine for detecting whether the signatured signal is present in the frame due to conduction from the vent tube. The detector responds to a failure to detect the signatured signal at the input by producing an output signal which indicates the absence of the vent tube. The controller responds to the detector output signal by shutting down the bottle filling machine until corrective action is taken.
