    • A storage rack arrangement (11) for permitting a plurality of loads (15) to be disposed closely adjacent in aligned front-to-back relationship longitudinally along a generally horizontally elongated storage bay. The storage rack arrangement (11) includes a frame (12) which defines the storage bay and which has a pair of generally parallel support tracks (31) fixedly mounted thereon adjacent opposite sides of the bay. The support tracks (31) are elongated longitudinally along the bay in the front-to-back direction and are slightly downwardly inclined as they project toward a front of the bay. A telescoping carriage assembly (14) is movably mounted on the support tracks (31) and includes at least front and rear carriages (43, 41) which are adapted to have a load (15) mounted thereon when the front and rear carriages (43, 41) are in an extended position.

    • A conveyor provided with a sidewardly spaced pair of elongate roller systems (61, 62) which are downwardly inclined and are maintained in rolling engagement with legs (56, 57) associated with outer edge portions of a pallet. A conveying arrangement (71) extends longitudinally midway between the roller systems (61, 62) and includes a vertically movable roller unit (72) actuatable so that, when raised upwardly the rollers (81) engage and lift a center portion (58) of the pallet (55) to permit gravity-urged movement downwardly along the conveyor.     • A conveyor arrangement (21), as associated with a storage rack (11), employs a plurality of individual trolleys or cars (45) supported on sloped runways segments (42) which in turn are supported on a pulsating or cyclically-actuated vertical lifting arrangement (56), with the complete arrangement being supported within a rail (26, 27) having upper edges which function as supporting flanges (33) for the loads. When the lifting device (56) is activated to lift the inclined runways (42) and cars (45) upwardly, the loads (12) are lifted away from the supporting flanges (33), whereby the weight of the loads causes the cars (45) to move downwardly by gravity along the sloped runways (42) whereby the loads are forwardly advanced a small amount, until the loads again contact the support flanges (33). When the cars (45) are lowered due to lowering of the lifting arrangement (56), the cars (45) are biased back to a raised position along the upper end of the runway (42) whereby they are again engaged under the load so as to permit a repeat of the cycle.

    • A level gravity conveyor (11) provides a plurality of individual load-engaging support pads (44) aligned longitudinally along the conveyor. The pads are movably supported on runway segments (34) which extend longitudinally. Each runway segment defines an upper raceway surface (41) which movably supports the pad, which upper surface in the preferred embodiment is defined by a plurality of support rollers (41). The runway segments (34) are alternately raised and lowered so that, when in a raised position, the upper surfaces slope downward by gravity along the inclined upper surfaces to forwardly advance the loads through a small distance. When the runway segments (34) are lowered so that the pads disengage the loads, the upper raceway surfaces (41) slope downwardly in the upstream direction to cause gravity-induced return movement of the pads (44) to their original upstream positions.
