    • A request for information is received from a device over a global communications network (100). A device type is identified, the device type comprising a communication format, a browser type, and a hardware type (102). The content is retrieved in response to the request and is formatted in a standard markup language regardless of the identified device type (104). One of the computer language objects for the identified communication format, one of the browser objects for the browser type and one of the device objects for the identified hardware type are retrieved from at least one of the data sources (106). Based on the objects, the content is reformatted into a language that enables display of the content on the device, and is delivered to the device over the global communications network (108).

    • A plurality of end users remotely access a network that includes a hub site and a number of provider sites. Information relating to the end user is associated with a non-externally identifying symbol. Public end-user information is shared with provider without permission from the end user. Private end-user information is shared with providers only upon receiving permission from the end user. The hub site receives codes from the end user and, based on the codes, directs the end user to a location on the network. The particular location to which the end user is directed may be based on criteria specified by a service provider, an expressed goal of the end user or property information of a session of the end user on the network.

    • An end-user is directed to a location on the Internet based on machine-readable codes scanned by the end user. The end-user is associated with at least one of the following: an end-user country selection, an end-user language selection, a service category (105, 106, 107), an access media type (104), and the presence of an access certificate. A database with a plurality of entries (101) is provided. Each of the entries (101) is associated with a machine-readable code and includes one or more different network addresses. Code information associated with the scans of machine readable codes made by the end-user is received at a network site. In response to the scan information, entries (101) associated with the machine-readable codes scanned by the end-user are retrieved from the database. At least some of the entries (101) include information irrelevant to the information associated with the end user. Only relevant entries (101) are selected. The end user is connected with the network address selected.

The broadcast may be adapted to include a code, may include a broadcast prompt associated with a code, or may simply be associated with a broadcaster that is associated with a code. Time date information corresponding to the time and date of the broadcast may also be received at the hub site.     • Remote devices communicate with a central server in order to provide event tracking information pertaining to a business process, which is conducted by persons performing multiple roles. Software, including a state machine, is downloaded onto the device. A first state table is also downloaded and applied to the state machine in order to configure the device to operate in accordance with a first role. While the device is configured to operate in accordance with the first role, field data is captured and processed with the state machine in accordance with the first state table to generate event tracking information, which is transmitted to the server. Then, a second state table is applied to the state machine previously downloaded in order to reconfigure the device to operate in accordance with a second role. The device is reconfigured from the first role to the second role without changing the state machine on the device. While the remote device is configured to operate in accordance with the second role, field data is captured and processed with the state machine in accordance with the second state table to generate event tracking information, which transmitted to the server.
