    • A clutch brake assembly (10) includes a clutch (12) and a transmission shaft (16) for transmitting rotational motion from the clutch to the transmission (14). A brake disc (18) is rotatably driven by and slideably disposed on the transmission shaft. A clutch release member (20) is also slideably disposed on the shaft. Brake pads (30, 36) are non-rotatably and removably attached to the release member and a bearing retainer (26) on the transmission for dissipating braking energy. Each of the brake pads includes a backing plate (32, 38) and friction material (34, 40) secured to the backing plate. During operation, the release member frictionally sandwiches the brake disc between the release member and the bearing retainer for reducing rotation of the shaft. The inventive brake pads are configured to facilitate replacement of the pads without disconnection of the transmission.

    • A set of brake linings for a floating caliper disk brake consists of a first brake lining (1) with a first retaining spring (7) for clamping to a brake piston (9) and a second brake lining (2) with a second retaining spring (8) for clamping to an axially outer leg (16) of the floating caliper. The first retaining spring (7) has two tongues (10, 11) which lock into a bore (18) of the hollow brake piston (9), and the second retaining spring (8) has just such tongues (13, 14) which lock into a recess (15) in the outer casing leg (16). The invention provides that the distance between facing spring tongues (10, 11 and 13, 14) differs from one retaining spring to the other in conformity with the different widths of the bore (18) and recess (15), respectively. As a result, it is impossible to attach the first brake lining to the outer casing leg (16) or the second brake lining (2) to the brake piston (9). This safeguard against a mix-up is especially advantageous when the first friction lining (3) of the first brake lining (1) differs in shape from the second friction lining (5) of the second brake lining (2) such that the two brake linings (1, 2) must under no circumstances get mixed up.
