    • A method for interacting with a slide-show presentation, the slide-show including a plurality of slides (212). A slide is retrieved from among a plurality of slides from a memory storage device (106). The slide is displayed to a user on a display device (113) at a first resolution. The method provides the user with a capability for performing one or more operations corresponding the displayed slide. The operations include displaying a pop-up text window which provides details about the displayed slide. The operations further include a capability for displaying the slide in a zoom mode, whereby the slide is displayed at an enhanced resolution and a further capability for simultaneously displaying the plurality of slides in a thumbnail-sketch mode including descriptive text.

    • A number of hash tables are accessed concurrently with a different computed index for each hash table. Each index identifies a location in one of the hash tables at which a forwarding entry may be stored. To search for a forwarding entry, the locations identified by the indices computed by performing a hash function on a search key are searched to a match for the search key. To insert a forwarding entry if single cycle inserting is not required and all the locations identified by the indices computed by performing a hash function on an insert key are used then the data base is reordered so that the forwarding entry can be inserted at one of the locations identified by one of the computed indices for the inset key. If single cycle insertion is required and all the locations identified by the computed indices are used, one of the locations identified by one of the computed indices for the insert key is randomly overwritten by the forwarding entry.

    • The present invention is directed to a method of incorporating foreign material into cells that exist in a non-adherent state. In some embodiments, the method employs a microinjection needle together with an adhesive molecule or apparatus capable of immobilizing cells that exist in a non-adherent state onto a substrate or other surface capable of supporting cell attachment to permit introduction of a desired material, such as nucleic acid, into the cell. The non-adherent cells can be genetically altered by the microinjection of nucleic acid sequences (DNA) of sufficient size to permit direct introduction of said nucleic acid into the chromosomal DNA of the cell, without the use of a retrovirus, adenovirus, or other carrier molecule. The invention also thus provides a method of gene therapy insofar as cells modified according to the defined method, particularly undifferentiated cells such as stem cells, may be created to include a gene or fragment thereof sufficient to replace a deficiency or correct an abnormality or deficiency in the cell, and used in a patient by injection of the cells. The corrected nucleic acid then gives rise to genetically corrected differentiated cell species, and hence an approach useful in treating a number of physiological disorders.
