    • Disclosed are a method and a device for hot-stamping parts (20) to be stamped, in which a block (10) and a part (20) that is to be stamped are effectively interconnected on a stamping plane (24) by means of the surfaces (30, 32) thereof which are used for stamping. A stamping foil (28) comprising material that is to be stamped on is placed between the block (10) and the part (20) to be stamped in such a way that the material that is to be stamped on is stamped upon the part (20) to be stamped with the aid of the block (10) during the effective connection while a stamping force (P) required for stamping acts in the direction of a stamping axis (B) extending approximately perpendicular to the stamping plane (24). In the inventive method and device, the surfaces (30, 32) of the block (10) and the part (20) which are used for stamping simultaneously move relative to each other along defined uniform trajectories (36, 38) onto the stamping plane (24) and back out therefrom, intersecting the stamping axis (B) during the stamping process.

    • An apparatus and method for embossing and valley printing elongated substrates is in the nature of a three roll angle offset gravure printing system which incorporates embossing. The apparatus provides independent control (134, 152) of the surface speed of the transfer roll (122) for transferring an ink layer to the exposed raised portions of the printing and embossing roll (166). By maintaining substantial identical surface speed between the transfer roll (122) and the printing and embossing roll (166), ink is transferred without smearing or smudging at the appropriate thickness to provide valley printing in various substrates such as louvers and the like.

    • A method and apparatus for a two-pulse solenoid embossing system implementing an amplitude feedback circuit, i.e., current monitor (48), to provide precise amplitude and timing control over two current pulses (4, 5), and thereby provide precision control over the position and velocity of the embossing system's print elements (64a, 64b). To maintain the current amplitude during the second current pulse (5), the method and apparatus alternatively switches the power on and off to the solenoid coils (55) with a frequency such that a substantially constant current amplitude is maintained in the solenoid coils (55). The embossing system provides an improved solenoid body assembly (61) including a first stack of steeel laminations (93), a center block (82) and a second stack of steel laminations (81). A plunger (62) is slidably connected to the solenoid body assembly (61) by shaft (63). Cavities (79) receive dowel pins (71) which are attached to plunger (62). The cavity and dowel pin arrangement (79, 71) prevents the plunger (62) from rotating.
