    • A rekeyable lock cylinder (10) includes a cylinder body (12) with a plug body (14) and carrier (90) sub-assembly disposed therein. The plug body (14) includes a plurality of spring-loaded pins (113) and the carrier assembly (90) includes a plurality of racks (92) for engaging the pins (113) to operate the lock cylinder (10). The racks (92) and pins (113) move in a transverse direction, in response to insertion of a first valid key (160) into the lock cylinder (10), to unlock the lock cylinder (10). The carrier (90) moves in a longitudinal direction, in response to insertion of a tool (162) in a tool-receiving aperture (54), from an operating position to a rekeying position. In the rekeying position, the racks (92) are disengaged from the pins (113) and a second valid key can replace the first valid key (160). Rotation of the plug body (14) from the rekeying position with the second valid key in the lock cylinder (10) obsoletes the first valid key (160).
