    • A system for combusting bridging fuel, e.g., biomass material (90). The apparatus (10) includes enclosure (12) defining a firebox. Combustion air manifold (20), exhaust manifold (26), and heat exchanger (24) are positioned along the center horizontal axis of firebox (12). Fuel feed conveyor (30) enters through the wall of firebox (12) and extends along the top of firebox (12). A temperature sensor (T2-T9) is positioned on the exterior of firebox (12). Controller (102) is operatively connected temperature sensor (T2-T9) and fuel feed conveyor (30). If the temperature sensor (T2-T9) exceeds a set point, controller (102) automatically operates fuel feed conveyor (30) to refill firebox (12) with fuel (90). This can reinsulate the wall of firebox (12) so that fuel (90) surrounds the combustion. Heat is extracted from the combustion by heat exchanger (24) while the exterior wall of firebox (12) is kept relatively cool by the insulating layer of fuel (12). Automatic fuel refill allows combustion to be continuous instead of requiring shut-down of combustion and re- ignition after filling firebox (12) with fuel (90).

    • A method and apparatus for delivering biomass fuel to a structure through an external wall of the structure is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a hopper (19) disposed within a delivery vehicle (12). The hopper includes an inlet disposed on its top surface (22) to receive biomass fuel and an outlet located proximate the bottom (23) of the hopper to release the fuel by opening a gate valve. A delivery hose (31) is connected to the hopper outlet at one end and is sealably connectable at its other end to an externally accessible coupling disposed on an external wall of the structure to which fuel is to be delivered. The coupling is connected on the interior side of the external wall to a delivery pipe that connects to a fuel bin for storing the biomass fuel. Sensors within the bin can signal the operator when the level of fuel within the bin reaches a preselected level, allowing the operator to stop delivery when the bin is full.

    • In an incinerator of the type having a combustion chamber (10) which may be loaded through a loading doorway (21) and having at least one burner (32) for directing ignited fuel oil or gas and/or combustion air under pressure into the chamber, the combustion chamber (10) is of elliptical shape in plan view, the burner (32) entering the chamber at one end of its long axis and being directed obliquely down to the chamber bottom at its opposite end, the chamber top having a gas outlet (17) at the same end as the burner (32).
