    • Provided are an apparatus and method for efficiently decoding signals input through a plurality of antennas in a system supporting an Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM)/Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) scheme. A method for decoding signals received via at least two paths through a plurality of antennas in a system supporting an 0FDM/0FDMA scheme, the method comprising the steps of: measuring power of a signal received via each path; generating correlation metrics by calculating inner products of basis vector sets or multiplying the basis vector sets in units of tiles or bins of the signal; generating decoding metrics based on the measured power of each path and the correlation metrics; and determining a payload on the basis of the decoding metrics. An apparatus for decoding signals received via at least two paths through a plurality of antennas in a system supporting an 0FDM/0FDMA scheme, the apparatus comprising: a signal power measuring means for measuring power of a signal received via each path; a demodulation/decoding means for generating correlation metrics corresponding to likelihood of potential payload values of a signal received via each path; and a maximum ratio combining (MRC)/determination means for determining a payload based on the measured power of each path and the correlation metrics.

    • A method for providing qualitative analysis of solid forms of a chemical compound/or drug candidate including polymorphous, hydrates, solvates and amorphous solids that does not require an a priori knowledge of either the solid form or the total number of groups of solid forms. The invention includes application of cluster analysis of NIR spectra using principal component anlysis (PCA) techniques for segregating the samples into groups. A Malalanobis distance algorithm is then utilised to calculate the Mahalanobis distance between the clustered data and established discrete groups of the samples having the same solid form. Accordingly, utilisation of the method of the invention quickly provides a determination of the number of groups of solid forms thereby increasing the efficiency by eliminating redundant screening of the same solid forms.

    • A method and system for reducing the complexity of block motion estimation is described. According to the invention, the block distortion measure is determined by calculating a partial error result using a proportion of pixels in the block, comparing the partial error result with a threshold value and rejecting blocks where the partial error result is greater than the threshold value, and calculating a full error result for non-rejected blocks only. The threshold value is a function of the current minimum partial error result, and is preferably the current minimum partial error result multiplied by a threshold constant λ. Another aspect of the invention provides a video transport scheme which exploits the different importance of both GOP and re-synchronisation levels. According to this aspect, an unequal loss protection (ULP) philosophy is utilized. That is, the bit stream data is partitioned into several parts according to different importance, and the parts are unequally protected against packet loss using forward error correction codes.
