    • Embodiments relate to systems and methods for the selective caching of burst stream transmissions. A digital video (e.g., DVB-H) or other transport stream can be received on a cellular telephone or other device. The transport stream can be divided into bursts in a sequence of cyclical time slots, each slot carrying one service such as a video channel. The bursts contained in the time slots most distant in time from a currently received time slot can be stored to an onboard cache. When a user wishes to change the service being played, they can select the new desired service. If the user chooses to switch or "zap" to one of the cached services, the media decoder on the device can immediately begin decoding and playing the service encoded in that burst back, rather than waiting for the arrival of the next time slot of the subsequent burst for that service.

    • The present invention relates to parallel treatment of DVB-H data bursts. It provides a method of reception of consecutive at least first and second data bursts and a data reception unit. The method comprise receiving a first data burst (step 504), processing the first data burst (step 506) during a first period (216), and receiving a second data burst (step 516) during a second time period (214), wherein the first (216) and second (214) time periods at least to some extent overlap in time. By using a first and a second memory (406) for storing alternating data bursts, the data reception unit (400, 604) can be kept in an inactive less power consuming mode a longer time, thus saving energy as compared to prior art techniques.

    • Embodiments are directed to transmitting receiver-capacity-signalling data that specifies a plurality of receiver capacities to be used for receiving a service. The signalled receiver capacities may include: a type of time interleaver being used and a minimum burst interval between two consecutive bursts. The signalled receiver capacities may also specify: how often a physical layer pipe appears in frames, and/or a number of a frame in which a physical layer pipe appears for the first time during a super frame. Embodiments are directed to receiving the receiver-capacity-signalling data and if, based on the received receiver-capacity-signalling data, receiver capacity is sufficient for one or more selected services, performing service discovery and decoding the one or more services. Otherwise, decoding the one or more services may not be performed.
