    • A method for scanning and securing a container including a plurality of at least partially composite panels defining an interior volume is disclosed. The method includes: storing unique identification information in an identification element within container; sealing the container; monitoring the container for intrusion; without breaching the seal of the container, remotely identifying the container based on the unique identity information without breaching the seal of the container; without breaching the seal of the container; scanning the identified container to determine the presence or absence of a nuclear weapon in the interior volume; and if the scan determines no nuclear weapon is present remotely storing certificate information associated with the identity of the container in a remote monitor unit.

    • A radiation, explosives, and special materials, detection and identification system includes a housing supporting one or more gamma sensors and one or more solid-state neutron sensors proximate to container contents under examination. The system collects radiation data from the sensors and compares the collected data to one or more stored spectral images representing one or more isotopes to identify one or more isotopes present. The identified one or more isotopes present are corresponded to possible materials or goods that they represent. The possible materials or goods are compared with the manifest relating to the container to confirm the identity of materials or goods contained in the container or to detect and/or identify unauthorized materials or goods in the container. A battery powered sensor arrangement is also disclosed.

    • A system for screening cargo containers is provided including an image generation device, an apparatus for screening cargo containers and an output module. The image generation device generates an image signal conveying information related to the contents of the cargo container. The apparatus receives the image signal and a list of objects conveying objects expected to be present in the cargo container. A processing unit processes the image signal in combination with the list of objects and a group of target images associated with objects to derive mismatch information data. The mismatch information data conveys at least one distinction between the list of objects and the information related to the contents of the cargo container conveyed by the image signal. Information conveying the mismatch information data is released and conveyed to a user of the system by an output module.

    • A cargo container inspection device for inspection of conventional cargo containers being lifted by a crane. The device is adapted for attachment to conventional cargo lifting cranes at used in ports to be at a position adjacent to a cargo container when said cargo container is elevated by said crane. Nuclear material and chemical material detectors of the device inspect the interior of the cargo container for contraband material. If contraband is detected, the container may be marked for segregation and further inspection. Concurrent with the inspection an imaging device records and transmits images of the container and the nuclear and chemical readings from the nuclear and chemical detectors. The device will activate telephonic, electronic, and audible warnings in addition to marking the container if contraband is detected.

The X-ray source (12) typically transmits a burst of narrow pulses of X-rays at the object being investigated at a low repetition rate. The X-ray sensor (14) utilizes an X-ray scintillating screen (42) in combination with either an integrating CCD camera (48), or an active matrix (52) of thin film transistors (60) and sample-and-hold photodiodes (62), to produce an integrated signal representative of the accumulated number of flashes of radiation (X-ray pulses that pass through the object) that are sensed in a given pixel area of the scintillating screen. The self-contained display and controller unit (16) utilizes digital signal processing within an enhanced portable computer, including a flat solid state display panel (28) and associated drive circuitry, in order to display the full dynamic range and resolution of the sensor. A modem (36) allows the digitized image to be sent to a remote location where the exact same image can be recreated for analysis by of-site experts.
