The fitting and pipe may be formed with reinforcement ribs along a portion of the body and an annular reinforcing ring spaced inwardly from each end of the pipe and fitting. The reinforcement ribs and annular rings increase the durability and resistance to stress of the fitting and pipe, thereby avoiding the expense and time normally required for replacement or repair of a fitting and pipe that quickly fails. The fitting and pipe may have a tapered portion to further increase the stiffness of the bell portion. The bell portion of a fitting and pipe may further have a substantially Z-shaped configuration to further increase the stiffness of the bell portion.

A body is defined by joining the housing portions along their inner surfaces, with the channels aligning to form passageways through the body. Along one channel in each housing portion, adjacent the edge of the inner surface, is a widened portion (32) formed into the housing portion to define a containment chamber for receiving a duckbill-type check valve (34) constructed as a single piece from a resilient material. The valve is secured within the chamber to cause fluid flow into the chamber to pass through the valve.
