摘要： A catheter guidewire for facilitating introduction of a flexible catheter finto the human body (e.g., into the bladder) has a proximal end having a first stiffness which is sufficient to facilitate guidance of a stiff plastic expansion sheath through the tissue. A distal end of the guide wire has a second stiffness, substantially less than the first stiffness, to avoid damage to internal walls of the bladder. Preferably, the guide wire incorporates an intermediate portion having a stiffness between the first stiffness value and the second stiffness value.

摘要： The present invention is a catheter device (36) that includes a disruptable guidewire channel (30). The guidewire channel is configured to provide trackability of the catheter along the guidewire (40) during introduction of the catheter to a treatment site. Once treatment is completed, the guidewire channel (30) can then be disrupted so as to free the guidewire from the catheter in situ. The apparatus of the present invention provides advantages over existing over-the-wire and rapid exchange catheter introduction methods, including the ability to achieve much faster treatment in series, the ability to maintain multiple treatment implements simultaneously at a treatment site using a single guidewire (40).

摘要： A multi-lumen catheter and method for inserting same in a patient is disclosed. The catheter includes an elongated, central, multi-lumen tube portion having a proximal end and a distal end. The central tube portion has a substantially cylindrical outer shape and is internally segmented into a plurality of lumens. A distal branch portion includes a plurality of single-lumen distal extension tubes. Each distal extension tube has a proximal first end and a distal second end. The proximal first end of each distal extension tube is connected to the distal end of the central tube portion such that the single lumen of each distal extension tube is in fluid communication with one of the plurality of lumens of the central tube portion. A proximal branch portion includes a plurality of single-lumen proximal extension tubes. Each proximal extension tube has a distal first end and a proximal second end. The distal first end of each proximal extension tube is connected to the proximal end of the central tube portion such that the single lumen of each distal extension tube is in fluid communication with one of the plurality of lumens of the central tube portion. Each lumen of the central tube portion and the lumens of the distal and proximal extension tubes in fluid communication therewith define a flow path through the catheter. Selectively attachable hub connectors are provided for selective attachment to the distal extension tubes and connection of the catheter to a fluid exchange device.

摘要： This invention is an expandable electrode array (18) mountable to the distal end of a catheter (10). The expandable array includes a plurality of adjacent elongated segments (20) preformed with proximal, medial and distal hinge portions wherein at least one electrode (22) is mounted on at least one of the segments (20). Each of the plurality of peripheral segments (20) is integrally formed with a resilient conductive longitudinal core encapsulated in an electrically insulated material. A deployment mandrel (26) is operatively connected to each of the respective peripheral segments (20) whereby movement of the mandrel (26) in the proximal direction causes the respective peripheral segments (20) to bend outwardly about the proximal, medial and distal hinge portions to radially expand the segments (20) relative to one another so that the electrodes (22) moves to a predetermined transverse coplanar orientation.
