    • An apparatus for reducing interference of a signal over a plurality of stages includes a processor configured to determine at least two equalizer taps based on at least one of a covariance and a channel impulse response of the signal. The processor is further configured to estimate at least one additional equalizer tap based on the at least two equalizer taps. In addition, the processor is configured to reduce, for each of the plurality of stages, the interference of the signal for that stage using an equalizer tap from either the at least two equalizer taps or the at least one additional equalizer tap, so that the signal for the next stage in the plurality of stages has the reduced interference. A method is also provided for reducing interference of a signal over a plurality of stages.

    • Systems and methods for a wireless communication system are provided. The method includes estimating a time-variation of a channel through which the wireless communication system transmits. This also includes decreasing the estimated time-variation of the channel from a signal transmitted by the wireless communications system. An iterative process and components are provided to allow efficient and accurate frequency domain equalization. Various processing components remove or mitigate components of channel variation and recovers a circular convolution, in order that frequency domain equalization (FDE) structures developed for static channels become effective in time-varying channels. For time varying channels, a vector is determined which represents a degradation of the corresponding equivalence between the time domain and the frequency domain which is relied upon by the frequency domain equalization. Thus, a time variation cancellation process is performed where said vector is iteratively subtracted from the frequency domain equalization. In this manner, frequency domain equalization performance is improved in the presence of time varying channels.

    • A receiving method and apparatus for increasing coherent integration length while receiving a positioning signal from transmitters such as GPS satellites. In order to compensate for frequency drifts that may occur in the positioning signal, a hypothesis is made as to the frequency drift, which is inserted into the receiving algorithm. Advantageously, the length of coherent integration can be increased at the expense of reducing the length of incoherent integration while keeping the total integration length the same, the net effect of which is an increase in signal detection sensitivity. The frequency drift hypothesis has any appropriate waveform; for example, approximately linear or exponential. The hypothesized frequency drift can be inserted into the receiver algorithm in any suitable place; for example, the data block may be adjusted for the hypothesized frequency drift, alternatively the reference signal may be adjusted, or the frequency samples of either the data block or the reference signal may be adjusted.
