摘要： An elongate electrode, usually an anode, is provided, suitable for use in an impressed current corrosion protection system. The electrode comprises a central elongate core (4), usually a metal such as copper, an optional conductive polymeric composition (6) surrounding the metal core and having a higher electrical resistivity than the core, but being in electrical contact with the core, a flexible jacket (10), for example, a fabric braid containing within it particulate coke (8), and tensioning wraps (11) positioned around the flexible jacket. The purpose of the tensioning wraps (11) is to compact the coke particles relative to their compaction in the absence of the tensioning wraps.

At least one edge of the tape is chamfered (5), and in preferred embodiments the angle of the chamfer is no greater than 25 DEG especially no greater than 7 DEG . In other preferred embodiments the tape comprises a backing layer (3) and an adhesive layer (4), both of which preferably include a chamfered edge, the chamfer preferably extending through both the backing layer and the adhesive layer. The tape is preferably heat recoverable, and the adhesive, if present, heat activatable. The tape may be installed according to a preferred method of the invention using induction heating, preferably at such high frequency that the ratio of the thickness of the substrate to the skin depth is at least 25:1.

摘要： A hole in a pipe or polymeric casing associated with a district heating system is sealed by means of a polymeric patch that comprises a backing layer (2), a heat-activatable bonding layer (4) for securing the patch to the pipe or casing, and an electrically heatable layer (4). A further polymeric layer (8) may be included in the patch remote from the backing layer (2) when the substrate itself is not polymeric. The layers may be separate, or one layer may perform more than one function. Tooling (Figure 5) may also be provided to enhance the sealing of the hole when using the patch and method of the invention.

摘要： A conductive polymeric heat recoverable article is provided with electrodes (10) on its surface. The electrodes (10) can be connected to a source of electrical power to cause current to flow through the article to heat and hence to recover the article. However the arrangement is such that although the regions of the article immediately beneath the electrodes (10) may comprise heat recoverable material, those regions are not heated to a temperature sufficient to recover them. Therefore although the region of the article between the electrodes (2', 2'') recovers, the regions immediately beneath the electrodes (10) do not. So the electrodes (10) remain in contact with the article.
