摘要： The reaction block assembly (20) comprises a reaction block (12) containing a plurality of reaction wells (14). Influent and effluent ducts (38, 38', 39, 39') open at the upper face of the reaction block adjacent each to each of the reaction wells. These ducts provide communication between each reaction well and a source of reagents and gases and with waste removal means for removal of effluent from the reaction wells. A membrane sheet (28) overlies the upper face of the reaction block to define a pneumatic valve to open and lose the duct openings. The reaction block assembly preferably includes a temperature control block (16) that underlies the reaction block for control of the temperature in the reaction wells. Overlying the reaction block is a top manifold plate (18) block for delivery of high pressure gas to actuate the pneumatic valves by applying pressure against the membrane to seal the duct openings.

摘要： Parallel semi-continuous or continuous reactors are disclosed. The parallel reactors preferably comprise four or more reaction vessels. The reaction vessels are preferably small volume reaction vessels, preferably pressure reaction vessels, and/or preferably integral with a common reactor block. The reaction vessels can comprise shaft-driven stirrers. At least two, preferably at least three or at least four liquid feed lines can provide selective fluid communication between each of the reaction vessels and one or more liquid reagent sources. Additional features, suitable in connection with parallel reactors or with single reaction vessels are also disclosed.

摘要： Devices and methods for controlling and monitoring the progress and properties of multiple reactions are disclosed. The method and apparatus are especially useful for synthesizing, screening, and characterizing combinatorial libraries, but also for conventional experimental reactors as well. The apparatus generally includes multiple vessels (102, 206, 236, 266, 338, 362, 396, 522, 710, 876, 912, 1286, 1542) for containing reaction mixtures, and systems (180, 230, 260, 270, 272, 500, 1544, 1546, 1548, 1604) for controlling the stirring rate and temperature of individual reaction mixtures or groups of reaction mixtures. In addition, the apparatus may include provisions for independently controlling pressure in each vessel, and a system (146, 1002) for injecting liquids into the vessels at a pressure different than ambient pressure. In situ monitoring of individual reaction mixtures provides feedback for process controllers (160, 268, 678, 720, 928, 1500, 1508, 1604), and also provides data for determining reaction rates, product yields, and various properties of the reaction products, including viscosity and molecular weight. Computer-based methods are disclosed for process monitoring and control, and for data display and analysis.

摘要： In a first embodiment, this invention includes an integrated robot apparatus for performing combinatorial chemistry synthesis protocols and having interchangeable work-stations, robot arm tools, and reaction vessels and reaction vessel arrays. The work-stations and tools are specialized to perform tasks necessary for the synthesis in a plurality of the reaction vessels grouped in a plurality of the reaction vessel arrays. Preferably, these elements function interchangeably because they have standardized sizes and conformation. The work-stations and tools include those for fluid dispensing or aspirating from individual reaction vessels or from all the reaction vessels in an array simultaneously. The reaction vessels can include, alternatively, stackable, ball-sealed reaction vessels, microtitre-like reaction vessel arrays, arrays of independent reaction vessels, valve-sealed reaction vessels, septum-sealed reaction vessels, and syringe reaction vessels. In alternative embodiments, this invention includes these work-stations, tools, reaction vessels and reaction vessel arrays in various combinations or sub-combinations either for use in partially integrated robots or for manual or standalone use.
