摘要： Granules comprise binder-agglomeratd active particles for liquid treatment or filtration. Each granule has a center core of a material that itself has binding properties without the addition of other binders or sprays or adhesives, or, alternatively, each granule comprirses a matrix of active materials stuck together with the binder. The binder structure preferably ranges from a non-uniform matrix of binder formed by heat-deformed binder particles, to a clump of binder particles generally retaining the original shape or the binder particles, to non-continuous connectors of binder between active particles. The invented two-part media has high surface area per volume of media, which, because the outer surface and inner void surfaces of the particles are preferably substantially covered with active particles, translates to high activity for the preferred treatment process. Therefore, while a mixture of active particles may be used and a mixture of binders may be used, each media granule preferably consists only of a matrix, clump, or plurality of connectors of binder coated with active particles, with preferably no support for the active component other than the binder material.

摘要： A pore plugging material, for pH dependent membrane diffusion, in which cyclic olefins having phosphazene-functional moieties provide predictable erosion properties when used to plug pores is separation barriers and other porous membranes. Specific properties of the polymers are dependent on several factors, including molecular weight and identity of side groups attached to the phosphazene moiety. However, as a class, phosphazene-functional cyclic olefins provide both predictable erodibility and uniformly benign hydrolysis products and are, therefore, uniquely suitable as pore plugging polymers for separation barriers and membranes of all kinds. The invention, therefore, embraces the provision of a pH-sensitive erodible pore plugging material to pores in separation barriers and membranes of all kinds.

摘要： Compositions and methods for selectively binding specific metal ions, such as Ca and C , contained in a source solution are disclosed and described. This is accomplished by the use of a composition comprised of an EGTA ligand covalently bonded to a membrane support. The composition formula of the present invention is M-B-L where M is a membrane having a hydrophilic, partially hydrophilic or a composite membrane with a hydrophilic surface, B is a covalent linkage, and L is an EGTA ligand. The separation is accomplished by passing a source solution containing the ions to be separated through a device containing the membrane-ligand composition, causing the selected ions to be complexed to the EGTA ligands and subsequently removing the selected ions from the device by passing an aqueous receiving solution through the device and quantitatively stripping the selected ions from the EGTA ligand.

The module has one or more stacked cells, each having at least one opening, said cell opening or cell openings of the same type together forming at least one channel for the supply or discharge of the fluid to be treated. Each cell has two porous, flat components, which delimit an inner chamber and are traversed by the fluid, the inner chamber(s) being connected to the channel. The inner chamber of the cell or cells at least partially contains a treatment substance for the fluid. According to the method for producing a module of this type, a treatment material is introduced into the cells with a carrier fluid through the channel provided for supplying the fluid.
