摘要： A method and apparatus for encoding three-dimensional ("3D") video includes receiving a left-eye interlaced frame and a corresponding right-eye interlaced frame of a 3D video. An amount of interlacing exhibited by at least one of the left-eye interlaced frame and the corresponding right-eye interlaced frame is determined. A frame packing format to be used for packing the left-eye interlaced frame and the corresponding right-eye interlaced frame into a 3D frame is selected based on the amount of interlacing that is determined. The left-eye interlaced frame and the corresponding right-eye interlaced frame are formatted into a 3D frame using the selected frame packing format. Illustrative frame packing formats that may be employed include a side-by-side format and a top-and-bottom format.

摘要： With the introduction of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) technology in to communication channels in a cable network, cable modems that receive data downstream over subcarriers of the OFDM channel are grouped in to modulation tiers based on at least one metric. A profile is generated for each OFDM channel based on the measurements across cable modems and subcarriers related to the OFDM channel, including the metric values used to group the cable modems in to the modulation tiers. Included in an OFDM profile may be a scheme for allocating marginal cable modems in to the plurality of modulation tiers. The methods and systems for generating modulation and coding scheme profiles enable more efficient modulation by network elements.

In one example the system includes a MPEG-4 encoder to perform a less complex first pass encoding followed by a second pass more complex HEVC encoder. The system allows for a faster development cycle of a multipass encoder for a newly introduced codec by reusing the infrastructure and multipass design of an established video encoder already dealing with older technology. This multipass system allows bringing existing technology to a new codec with the constraints of the preexisting codec limitations, particularly in terms of CPU cycles, to make use of the new codec more economically practical.

摘要： Particular embodiments provide a system to determine ad segments in a video asset to enable subsequent ad replacement in video programs. The system is included in a multiple service operator (MSO) system that broadcasts video programs via a broadcast schedule. The MSO may not know the location of the ad segments in the video asset. To determine the ad segments, the MSO uses a classifier to classify video program segments and advertisements in the video asset. The classifier may be integrated with an nDVR system. By integrating with the nDVR system, particular embodiments may determine user behavior information, such as trick play commands, from the nDVR system. The classifier may use the user behavior information to detect ad segments in the video asset. In one embodiment, the classifier may fuse outputs from different detectors to detect and validate ad segments in the video program.
