摘要： The invention refers to the jumping pit, especially for high jump events, designed to ensure a safe landing for a jumper making jumps from larger heights. A jumping pit comprises a flat elastic structure and a shield put thereon, where the elastic structure is the inflatable mattress ( 1 ) provided on one side with evenly placed elastic inflatable ridges ( 2 ) attached with one side to the surface of the mattress ( 1 ). The ridges ( 2 ) are open from the side adjacent to the mattress ( 1 ) and attached to the mattress ( 1 ) along the edge of their bases so that the capacities of the ridges and capacity of the mattress ( 1 ) constitute the one whole. The mattress ( 1 ) with the ridges ( 2 ) is covered from the outside from the top and from the sides with the shield, the shape of which is aligned with the shape of the mattress ( 1 ) and its ridges and which is supported on the tops of the ridges ( 2 ).

The inner air cushion (4) may be formed from a plurality of layers (18, 19) of a thin, flexible material such as polyethylene, at least one of which is not permeable to air. The unit can be deflated for ease of transport and storage but does not require the permanent operation of an air pump to maintain pressure during use. Preferably, the unit comprises means (24, 25) for fastening the unit to other similar units as part of a modular system.

摘要： The present invention provides portable safety cushion apparatus for use below a workplace for arresting the fall of an object. It comprises a cushion having upper (11) and side faces (13) and a generally planar lower face (12) that is positioned on a surface. The upper, lower and side faces are formed from a lightweight flexible material and together define a single inflatable chamber (14). One or more face is provided with a plurality of apertures (18) that allow the controlled escape of air from the chamber. The apparatus also comprises an air pump (16) that continuously pumps air into the cushion to inflate it. In normal use when inflated the rate of air inflow from the pump is equal to the rate of outflow of air through the apertures, but when an object (20) falls upon the cushion the rate of air flow through the apertures increases such that the cushion deflates and slows the descent of the object to lower it to the surface without causing more than minimal rebound. The present invention also relates to a method of decelerating a falling object.
