    • An austempered structural steel component for an automotive vehicle, and a method for manufacturing the component, is provided. The structural component can be a twist axle, spring link, control arm, pillar, trailer hitch, bumper, body or suspension attachment bracket for a truck frame, or other chassis, body in white, or safety-related component. The structural component is at least partially formed of medium carbon steel having a bainitic microstructure. The medium carbon steel can include 0.2 to 1.0 wt. % carbon, 0.1 to 3.0 wt. % manganese, not greater than 2.0 wt. % silicon, 0.0 to 0.010 wt. % boron, not greater than 0.1 wt. % sulfur, and not greater than 0.2 wt. % phosphorous. The medium carbon steel provides a yield strength of 900 to 1500 MPa. The structural component is also lighter and can potentially be manufactured with reduced costs, compared to structural components formed from other steel materials.

    • A multi- window platen oven for simultaneously heating a plurality of blanks, for example aluminum blanks, before forming the heated blanks in a production line is provided. The oven includes a plurality of vertically aligned shelves disposed in an existing press assembly so that no additional floor space is required. The shelves are attachable to an upper press bed and one another. The upper press bed lifts the attached shelves to present an open window for receiving an unheated blank and/or removing a heated blank from the oven. The remaining windows remain closed and continue heating while the blanks are transferred to and from the oven. After closing the one open window, another window opens to receive another unheated blank and/or remove another heated blank. Thus, the multi- window platen oven continuously provides blanks which are ready for warm or hot forming.

    • A system for producing components by hot stamping includes a laser cutting station for cutting a plate from a supplied steel-sheet material. The plate has at least one of a predetermined edge-contour and a predetermined cut-out portion for forming a shape of the component. The plate is stored in a storage station, and is subsequently transferred to a furnace station for heating the plate to a predetermined deformation temperature. A press having a hot stamping tool forms the plate into the shape of the component. The system also includes a measuring station disposed downstream of the press for obtaining measurement data relating to the shape of the component that is formed from the plate. The measurement data obtained using the measuring station is provided to a control module of the laser cutting station via a feedback loop.
