The interferometric modulators have one or more anti-tilt members that inhibit undesirable movement of the reflective layer, such as curling and/or tilting. The stabilization of the reflective layer by the anti-tilt members can improve the quality of the optical output of the interferometric modulators, as well as displays comprising such interferometric modulators.

Electricity may be provided to the active subpixel array by way of these vias in the edge subpixels. The concepts provided herein apply to other types of passively-addressed displays, such as organic light-emitting diode ("OLED") displays and field emission displays.

Hold voltages may be applied along common lines between applications of release and address voltages, and the segment voltages may be selected to be sufficiently small that the segment voltages will not affect the state of the electromechanical devices along other common lines not being written to.
