    • The system includes a synchrotron X-ray source configured to emit an X-ray beam along a beam path. The system also includes a detector, preferably an area detector, such as a CCD detector, disposed in the beam path. The detector is configured to measure diffraction of the X-ray beam caused by a sample. The system additionally includes an automatic sample changer. The automatic sample changer is configured to sequentially position each of plurality of samples into the beam path between the synchrotron X-ray source and the detector. The samples preferably have a mass of about 10 to 100 mu gs and are exposed to the X-ray beam for between 5 and 60 seconds before being automatically exchanged with another sample. The method provides that a sample is automatically positioned into an X-ray beampath and irradiated. The diffraction is then detected, the sample removed, and the process repeated for multiple samples.

    • The invention relates to a such particle accelerator setup (1, 11 ) and method based on the total reflection of electromagnetic pulses with a frequency falling into the THz frequency domain that utilize the evanescent filed for the acceleration of electrically charged particles. Said setup includes a radiation source (5) to emit high-energy THz-pulses, preferably comprising a few optical cycles, having a large peak electric field strength, as well as two optical elements (2, 12) in the form of a pair of bulk crystals made of a substance that exhibits large refractive index, low dispersion and high optical destruction threshold, wherein said optical elements are transparent for the THz radiation. The inventive solutions represent much simpler, more compact and more cost effective alternatives compared to the prior art particle accelerator setups.

    • Die Erfindung betrifft Einrichtungen und Verfahren zur Erzeugung beschleunigter Teilchen aus Targets zur Strahlentherapie. Weiterhin weist die Einrichtung mindestens einen Laser - zum Schneiden eines freien Targets aus dem Körper sowie - zum Erzeugen und Beschleunigen von Teilchen aus dem unmittelbar nach dem Schneiden vorhandenen freien Target durch Bestrahlung des freien Targets auf. Unmittelbar nach dem Schneiden entsteht somit ein frei schwebendes oder fallendes Target aus dem Körper, welches die Eigenschaften des Teilchenstrahls wesentlich bestimmt.
