    • A digital transmit beamformer system with multiple beam transmit capability has a plurality of multi-channel transmitters, each channel with a source of sampled, complex-valued initial waveform information (T410) representative of the ultimate desired waveform to be applied to one or more corresponding transducer elements for each beam. Each multi-channel transmitter applies beamformation delays (T422) and apodization (T420) to each channel's respective initial waveform information digitally, digitally modulates (T424) the information by a carrier frequency, and interpolates (T426) the information to the DAC (T428) sample rate for conversion to an analog signal and application to the associated transducer element(s). The beamformer transmitters can be programmed per channel and per beam with carrier frequency, delay, apodization and calibration values. For pulsed wave operation, pulse waveform parameters can be specified to the beamformer transmitters on a per firing basis, without degrading the scan frame rate to non-useful diagnostic levels.

    • A holder for a sensor used in dental radiography is provided having an ultra-thin bite wing (10) and a reinforced juncture (30) between the bite wing (10) and the integral sleeve (20) such that a perpendicular orientation is maintained while the sensor is in the patient's mouth. The dimensions allow the patient's teeth to be in close proximity while an image is formed using the sensor, and the disposable holder provides a mechanism for indicating a previous use to ensure single use. The holder is formed using an injection molding pocess of polyethylene of 40 to 80 melt flow, with a preferred melt flow of 60. The thin bite wing (10) includes a reinforced T-joint (30) at the base of the sleeve along the spine connecting the bite wing, which maintains the sleeve (20) and holder in a perpendicular orientation with respect to the plane formed by the upper and lower sufaces of the mating teeth.

    • The angular imaging system, and related method utilizes translating apertures to acquire data at a number of angles of interrogation. For omnidirectional scatterers, that is scatterers which emit a uniform sound field in all directions when insonified, the translating apertures should theoretically yield identical speckle patterns at all angles of interrogation. The result is in strong contrast to previously applied convention angular scatter measurement methods which produced rapidly varying speckle patterns with interrogation angle. Thus by using the translating apertures, using the transmit aperture translator (62), and the receive aperture translator (72), it is possible to acquire data for which the only variation in received signal with angle is due to the intrinsic scattering of the target.
