    • A wrappable, styrenic thermal insulation product for application to flexible, armoured pipe is in the form of an elongate tape of generally rectangular cross- section, optionally being provided with interlocking and/or overlapping portions so as to provide a continuous insulating layer when one or more layers of the tape are wound around the pipe. The interlocking and/or overlapping portions may be of various configurations. The tape is comprised of polystyrene or a styrene-based thermoplastic having high compressive creep resistance, high compressive strength and low thermal conductivity and may be foamed or unfoamed. A flexible, armoured pipe incorporates one or more layers of the wrappable, styrenic thermal insulation product between an outer armour layer and an outer polymeric sheath.

    • In an attachment method and an attachment means for attaching insulation mats (12, 12') each laid surroundingly around a longitudinal portion of a pipeline (10), jointing spaces are formed between individual mats (12, 12'). A long-term durable, tensioned, locked connection at each joint space is desired. Preferably, divided, bendable, semi-rigid attachment bands of metal, exhibiting tensile strength are used. These are placed individually in the area of each joint space and tightened around neighbouring end portions of adjacent insulation mats (12, 12') while the attachment band (18a, 18b) is centred laterally in that an internal bead engages guidingly into the joint space (16). One end portion (18b') of one attachment band half (18b) may be fastened to the adjacent end portion (18a') by means of screws (22), while the other end portions (18a' and 18b') are provided with holes (24') and plastically deformable lips (24) to be passed therethrough, respectively, the efficient length of the attachment band halves (18a and 18b) and the positioning of the lips (24) and of the holes being such that the threading of the lips (24) through the holes and their subsequent bending causes a tightening of the attachment band (18a, 18b). The lip material acts as a locking means for the tightening and retaining action of the attachment band (18a, 18b) to the insulation mats (12, 12').

A sleeve section (6) for the system comprises a sheet having first and second lengthwise edge regions (8a, 8b) interengageable with a sealing material (9a) therebetween, so as to form a sealed lengthwise extending seam (9). In accordance with the invention the first lengthwise edge region (8a) is provided with a lengthwise extending cavity (10) containing a bead (9b) of the sealing material (9a) therein, and said first and second lenghwise edge regions (8a, 8b) are formed and arranged for insertion of at least part of said second lengthwise edge region (12) into said cavity (10) when installing said section (6) captively to interengage said first and second lengthwise edge regions (8a, 8b) in a substantially sealed seam (9).

    • A system of insulation and jacketing of industrial equipment is provided. The system comprises an insulation layer comprising one or more layers of insulation, applied to an outer surface of the equipment and a jacketing layer applied and adhered to an outer surface of the insulation layer. An outer surface of an outermost layer of insulation is conditioned to form a smooth outer surface and promote adhesion of the jacketing layer to the insulation layer. A method of insulating and jacketing industrial equipment is also provided. The method comprises the steps of applying an insulation layer comprising one or more layers of insulation, to an outer surface of the equipment, conditioning an outer surface of an outermost layer of insulation and applying and adhering a jacketing layer to an outer surface of the insulation layer. Conditioning the insulation layer serves to smoothen the outer surface and promote adhesion of the jacketing layer to the insulation layer.
