    • The present invention relates to a method for coating plant seedlings and a system for performing the method. Coating is supplied in liquid form to a fork having several fork fingers or to several pipes connected in parallel rows on the coating reservoir, each fork finger/pipes having at least one nozzle. The spraying system (the pipes) can either be stationary or moveable. The coating may comprise wax supplied from a heated reservoir either by means of a pump, through a flexible, insulated hose to a fork having several fork fingers or to several parallel rows of pipes connected to the reservoir. The reservoir (1) which is equipped with means for controlling/regulating the temperature of the coating is either connected to a pump (2) and a flexible hose (3) for supplying coating to a fork (5) having several fork fingers (11) or supplied with several parallel rows of pipes (14), each fork finger/pipe having at least one nozzle (6). The spraying system is stationary or moveable, and the fork fingers/pipes are either supported with a heater (15) or the system is arranged in a chamber (4) equipped with heating means. The fork fingers (11) are connected to a central bar (12) to which coating can be supplied through the hose (3). The bar (12) can be moved along parallel guiding bars (13) connected to a frame (10).

    • A method of killing or controlling vegetation particularly along roadside berms involves the application of pressurised hot water from a moving applicator head in close proximity to the ground. The pressurised hot water is applied as jets of hot water from an applicator head at a temperature in the range of 100 DEG C to 110 DEG C and a flow rate of about 10 litres/minute supplied from one or pumps operating at a pump pressure of between 200 and 1000 psi. The apparatus is mounted on or in a vehicle such as a van, containing a water tank (1), a boiler (2) arranged to heat pressurised water supplied by a pump (4) under pressure to the boiler (2). The pump (4) is a piston pump which supplies the pressurised water through the boiler to a hand held applicator (5) or optionally a towed boom applicator (6). The hand held applicator (5) has an applicator head inside a shroud so that the pressurised hot water is applied to the surface of vegetation as jets of water within the confines of the shroud.

    • A method and apparatus for spraying in relation to row crops provides downwardly extending support elements (22) or drop legs carrying spray means in the region of their lower ends. The support elements extend downwardly between crop rows (28) and are moved lengthwise of the crop rows while spraying proceeds. The spray means deliver spray generally upwardly and/or horizontally with respect to the ground so as to treat crop material in the rows. The support elements are mounted so as to float freely and permit lateral movement to follow lateral and other row and crop contours. The support elements may be mounted on a boom (50). The boom may also be provided with downwardly directed spraying means (83) for simultaneous or sequential use. The boom is adapted to fold so as to produce a generally Z-shaped folded configuration. Automatically-actuated stop fingers (218) limit lateral float of the support elements when the boom folds. For lodged crop, the spray nozzles (30) on the support elements may be replaced by rotary wheel elements (128) having projecting spoke elements (130) which penetrate the crop and themselves carry spray means to distribute spray from within the crop. Power driven air discharge means is provided to assist dispersal of the spray.
