摘要： A system and method for providing message-based leasing of resources in a distributed computing environment. Services may issue leases to clients and provide operations on those leases. The lease functionality of a service may be defined in an XML message schema. Gates may be used to perform lease operations. Leases may be granted for a period that may be negotiated. Leasing messages for performing leasing operations may be defined. The leasing messages may include messages to renew a lease and to cancel a lease. Services may specify an address where leasing messages may be sent. A lease renewal mechanism may be provided in which a gate may receive lease renewal messages and automatically respond to them. A mechanism to detect stale advertisements in a space may be provided. When a service publishes its advertisement in a space, the service obtains a lease on the publishing of its advertisement. Each advertisement may include a time by which the service may renew the advertisement. When the lease is not renewed, the space service marks the service advertisement as stale. Services renew advertisements by sending a renewal message to the space. Stale service advertisements may be deleted after a period. A space service may allow clients to lease service advertisements in the space to thus grant clients access to the services. Messages are described for accessing the leasing services provided by the space services.

The invention optimizes networking capabilities among users in a comprehensive online community. Networking among a secured environment allows users to expand their networks to their peers' and beyond. This security measure is devised to discourage solicitation from other unwanted online users. The authorized user defines the actions that the verified user is allowed to take. These actions include, for example, only being able to review resume information, or being able to add information to the resume database without needing training on the operation of the database. A resume database server system coordinates the activity of the authorized and verified users. Communications between all three users is accomplished via a computer network.

摘要： A set of schema-based services (416) for Internet access to per-user data, wherein access to the data is based on each user's identity. The services (404) include a schema that defines rules and a structure for each user's data, and also includes methods that provide access to the data in a defined way. Each of the schemas thus corresponds to a logical document containing the data for each user. The user manipulates (e.g., reads or writes) data in the logical document by data access requests through defined methods (406). In one implementation, the schemas are arranged as XML documents, and the services (404) provide methods (406) that control access to the data based on the requesting user's identification, defined role and scope for that role. In this way, data can be accessed by its owner, and shared to an extent determined by the owner. The structure of the data is defined from the perspective of the data, not from that of an application program or a device, whereby appropriate programs can communicate with the services (404) to access the data, with existing knowledge of the schema-defined format, regardless of the device or application program (400) in use. Information-service schemas and services are combined to build a content-sensitive and context-sensitive information service to communicate information to recipient devices of users that subscribe to those services. an information agent service collects the information, and based on various criteria, determines if, when, and how to send and render the information, and to which subscribing client device or devices. The set of schemas include a notification schema that represents the subscription of a service to an information source and details about that information, and a device schema that represents information about user devices. The information agent service accesses criteria including user preferences and user contextual information, including presence information, location information, and schedule information along with people and groups data and extended-context data. Preferences about subscriptions and information handling policies may be stored and used at notification sources or in more central preference encodings. Access to multiple preferences is maintained, and a user interface is provided that allows users to inspect and control multiple subscriptions in one conceptual place.
