    • A computer-implemented method for facilitating the purchase and sale of shares in an open-ended mutual fund, in a single or plurality of different currencies, during a trading day when assets held by the mutual fund fluctuate in value as the assets trade on one or more exchanges. The trading day is divided into a plurality of pricing cycles. A net asset value, for a single or plurality of different currencies is received wherein the net asset value is associated with each share in the fund based on the values at which individual assets held in the fund traded on one or more exchanges immediately prior to the end of the pricing cycle and the number of shares purchased from the fund and redeemed by the fund during the prior pricing cycle. The number of shares associated with the trade is posted during a subsequent trading cycle and one or more reports are displayed immediately after posting the share value. Outstanding shares and available balances for shareholder accounts are produced at the end of the pricing cycle.

    • On-premises pager loss is reduced by alerting patrons they are out of range. Pagers include an LCD with messages or promotions. An LED on the pager emits different colors indicating the level of battery charge. Circuitry in the pager causes a higher charge to be delivered to the battery when the pager is first coupled to a charging unit, and a lower charge to be delivered thereafter. Stacked slots in the charging unit receive the pagers. This permits access without disconnection of pagers in other slots and removal from the slots using first-in-first-out rotation. Charging rails on the charging unit simultaneously and directly connect each pager in the slots. Charging units are electrically coupled to other units in a daisy chain. A light on the unit indicates whether it is receiving power. Conductors on the pagers mechanically interlock with the charging rail when a pager is inserted into a slot.

    • An effective index modifier that modifies light propagation in a waveguide. The device is formed on a wafer, such as a Silicon-On-Insulator (SOI) wafer that includes an insulator layer and and upper silicon layer. A waveguide is formed at least in part in the upper layer of the SOI wafer. The waveguide guides an optical signal by total internal reflection. At least one micro-mechanical system (MEMS) having at least one movable component is disposed a positive distance away from the waveguide. Application of voltage to the MEMS results in a variation of the distance between the moveable component and the waveguide, which in turn alters the effective index of the waveguide in a location proximate the moveable object, thereby resulting in modification of light propagation in the waveguide.

    • An end user is connected to a content provider application relating to a broadcast visually or audibly observed by the end user. The broadcast may be adapted to include a code, may include a broadcast prompt associated with a code, or may simply be associated with a broadcaster that is associated with a code. Code information associated with the code that uniquely identifies a broadcast station is received at a hub site. Time date information corresponding to the time and date of the broadcast may also be received at the hub site. Based on the received code information and time date information, the application is identified. The end user is connected with the identified application.
