    • Transfer policy management methods in a peer-to-peer networking environment such as BitTorrent are provided. A download TPM maximizes the usage of available bandwidth, while focusing on as few torrents as possible. For a given list of torrents, a peer in accordance with the present invention determines how many download connections to maintain at a given time in order to maximize usage of bandwidth. If the variance of per- connection bandwidths exceeds a threshold, more connections are added until either variance does not exceed the threshold or a maximum number of connections are established. A seeding peer determines when to reduce the number of files being seeded by monitoring its average upload rate per torrent. If its average rate falls below a threshold, then the peer stops seeding a file. The file that the peer stops seeding is one to which the peer is making the smallest overall contribution.

    • The present invention relates to a P2P service method, and more particularly, to a method of enabling paid members among users of information processors employing a P2P service to be treated preferentially and a method capable of providing other additional services. P2P service method according to the present invention is characterized by providing receiving a download request to download a predetermined file stored in a shared folder from another information processor, receiving member information including the type of a member and a holding point value held by the other information processor from the other information processor, determining, based on the member information, whether a user of the other information processor is a free member, if the user of the other information processor is the free member, comparing the holding point value to a file point value corresponding to the size of the file, and if the holding point value is larger than the file point value, transferring the file to the other information processor. According to the present invention, since P2P service companies providing a P2P service can provide a variety of services capable of preferentially treating paid members as compared to free members, conversion from free members to paid members can be induced. Thus, revenue of the P2P service companies can be assured. Further, the present invention can overcome several inconveniences caused due to the nature of the P2P during using the P2P service.

The invention further relates to a peer device (t3, t4, t5) and a method of uploading data content streams at a peer being constrained from uploading the data content streams to further peers in a segment of a P2P network. The network supervising (20) device for managing distribution of data content streams in a segment (11) of a P2P network (10), which network segment comprises one or more peers (t1-t5) being constrained from uploading the data content streams to further peers. The network supervising device comprises a processing unit (21) being arranged to receive a request for a data content stream (c3) from at least one of the peers (t3, t4, t5) being constrained from uploading the data content streams to further peers, and to identify whether at least one peer exists within the network segment being capable of uploading the requested data content stream, which peer is downloading the requested data content stream. If no peer within the segment is currently rendering the requested data content stream, the processing unit identifies whether at least one currently idle peer (p9) exists within the network segment, which currently idle peer is capable of uploading the requested data content stream. Further, the processing unit is arranged to assign to the at least one peer downloading the requested data content stream, or if no such peer is available, to assign to the at least one currently idle peer, to upload the requested data content stream to the peer being restrained from uploading the data content streams to further peers.
