摘要： A system for managing the rights to one or more digital content files within a computer network, and for permitting the on-line playback of such content files by an authorized user. In order to manage these rights, the system encrypts the content files to prevent unauthorized access to the files. Encryption is accomplished by using one or more keys which are associated with one or more segments of the content file. These keys enable an authorized user to decrypt and playback the content files at a subsequent time. Upon receiving the keys, an end user's system retrieves a license from a license server which specifies the rights of the user as it relates to the content files.

摘要： A media content pipeline architecture is described that enables media devices to efficiently receive, store, play, and stream media content. In general, a media content pipeline as described herein is configured to receive media content streams from one or more input sources, segment and store the media content streams into fixed-sized or variable- sized data buffers, encrypt the data stored in the buffers, and store the encrypted data in an in-memory buffer cache for further processing. The media content pipeline further may be configured to write the encrypted buffers stored in the in-memory buffer cache to a secondary storage device (e.g., a hard disk) in response to the occurrence of one or more defined operating conditions. The media content pipeline may enable a media device to efficiently receive and process media content data streams, write the media content data streams to storage, and stream the media content data to client devices.

The cypher key is configured to be encoded with a unique identification corresponding to the display device and lock the digital content item to that display device. The service cloud processor is configured to retrieve the encrypted slices, assemble the slices into one or more encrypted particles, and send the encrypted particles and the cypher key to the display device for assembly by the cypher key into the digital content item using an activation code provided by the crypto controller.

Each of the segments has a segment length according to a predetermined time interval. In one embodiment, a packager packages content into fragments and generates a manifest including policies and metadata associated with the content. A downloader obtains the manifest, and uses it to obtain the content from one or more uploaders. For example, a downloader might forward a search request to one or more trackers, which, in turn, are operable to locate one or more uploaders that can meet the request, subject to any relevant policy limitations. The uploaders forward fragments to the downloader, subject to any relevant policy. The downloader assembles the content from the fragments. The operations and interactions of the entities can be subject to policy limitations associated with the fragments, the content as a whole, or the like.
