    • An optical transmission line having a structure for achieving good transmission characteristics in a wider use wavelength band and a structure in which first and second waveguides having mutually-opposite transmission characteristics at a predetermined wavelength in the use wavelength band are alternated. The sign of the chromatic dispersions of the first waveguides at a predetermined wavelength in the use wavelength band is opposite to that of the second waveguides at the same wavelength. The sign of the dispersion slopes of the first waveguides is also opposite to that of the second waveguides. In a typical working example of the invention, particularly, the absolute values of the wavelength dispersions of the first waveguides lie in the range from 1 ps/nm/km to 10 ps/nm/km; the absolute values of the wavelength dispersions of the second waveguides lie in the range from 1 ps/nm/km to 10 ps/nm/km. The variations of transmission quality between wavelengths over the optical transmission line are effectively reduced.
