    • A prosthodontic assembly for installing a prosthetic tooth comprises a dental implant and abutment combination and a healing cap. The combination includes an implant body portion and an abutment portion. The implant body portion is located at a distal end of the combination and is configured to lie at least partially below a crest of a patient's jawbone. The abutment portion is located at a proximate end of the combination and is configured to lie at least partially above the crest of the patient's jawbone. The abutment portion comprises a flared portion, a shoulder portion and a final restoration portion. The shoulder portion lies between the flared portion and the final restoration portion. A healing cap includes a body portion having a proximal and a distal end. The body portion defines an inner cavity which is sized and adapted so that the healing cap fits over the final restoration portion. The healing cap further includes a tissue retraction flange at the distal end that extends below the shoulder portion when the healing cap is coupled to the abutment portion.

    • The invention relates to a dowel-shaped element for determining the spatial position of an implant (1). The inventive element can be inserted to an adapted receiving recess (10) in the implant (1), fixed therein and removed therefrom. In an assembly position, a collar section (26K) of the dowel-shaped element protrudes above the opening cross-section of the receiving recess (10). In order to determine the correct position of the dowel-shaped element in relation to the implant (1) in a simple and reliable manner without the need for an x-ray, the dowel-shaped element is provided with a through opening which extends in the direction of the longitudinal axis thereof, enabling a rod element (32) to be fed therethrough. The rod element can be brought into contact,by means of a distal stopping surface (36), with a stopping surface (37) on the bottom of the receiving recess (10) of the implant.

The healing cap (20) has a housing (24) that is dimensioned in accordance with the removed tooth (22) and has a releasably securable insert (26) that directly engages the head (50) of any implant (30) without scoring or damaging the implant (30). For posterior teeth, the healing cap (20) can preserve the tooth cavity (32) in the gingiva tissue (28) even if the implant (30) is mounted off center of the original tooth (22) location. The healing cap (20) also provides an occlusal lip (34) to prevent the overgrowth of gingiva tissue (28) during second stage healing.
