    • One embodiment of the present invention relates to a method and apparatus for encoding/decoding video which generate/use adaptive encoding pattern information, and to a recording medium for same. The method and apparatus of the present invention involve: encoding input signals into first block units in accordance with a plurality of encoding schemes; arranging the signals encoded in the first block units into second block units which are the integer multiplications of the first block units; selecting one of the arranged encoding patterns for the same block of the second block units, on the basis of the cost calculated by a distortion and a request rate; searching for the selected encoding pattern in a lookup table; increase the encoding pattern selection frequency if the encoding pattern is found in the lookup table; consecutively adding the encoding pattern if the encoding pattern is not found in the lookup table; aligning encoding patterns on the basis of the frequency; and generating, prior to the alignment, sequence information of the encoding pattern as substitute information for the selected encoding pattern of the relevant block, thereby adaptively generating additional information on the encoding pattern which might increase in accordance with the plurality of encoding schemes, thus reducing the number of bits of the additional information.

    • One embodiment of the present invention relates to an apparatus and method for encoding/decoding video through a vector quantization-based secondary prediction, which performs a secondary prediction on the basis of a vector quantization to reduce prediction errors. The apparatus of the present invention adaptively determines the order of encoding planes in accordance with the characteristics of an inputted image, and encodes the multi-plane image, and therefore provides further improved encoding efficiency as compared to conventional apparatuses which encode images in a fixed order, and provides further improved encoding efficiency, particularly when predictions on the planes are performed.
