    • A gas sampling device is in the form a bag (1) having a central seal (9) defining first and second chambers (3, 5). Each chamber (3, 5) has a respective inlet (15, 17) incorporating a one-way valve (19, 21). An indicator (25) is mounted on the interior surface of the bag (1), extending from the first chamber (3) across the seal (9) to the second chamber (5) in the region of a transparent window (23). The indicator (25) is curcumin and has a first portion (A) associated with the first chamber (3) which may come into contact with a gas collected in the chamber (3), a second reference portion (B) in the region of the seal (9), and a third portion (C) which may contact a gas collected in the second chamber (5). In use, breath samples are collected in chambers (3) and (5). The colour of indicator portions (A) and (C) may be compared to reference portion (B) to determine whether a difference in the amounts of ammonia present in the two samples exists. The device may be used to test for H. Pylori infection in a patient.

    • A data processor establishes a first range of rotational speeds of a rotor of the motor from a first lower limit to a first higher limit (S300 in FIG. 3) and a second range of rotational speeds from a second lower limit to a second higher limit (S302). A hysteresis band or a rotational range of speeds is established such that during operation in the first range the first higher limit is adjusted (e.g., raised by a first amount to be greater than the second lower limit)(S304). A sensor detects or measures a rotational speed of a rotor of the motor (S306). The data processor determines whether the measured rotational speed falls within the first range or the second range, as adjusted by the hysteresis band, to identify a selected speed range (S308). A switching frequency of a pulse-width modulation signal is varied in accordance with the selected speed range (S310).

    • One embodiment of the method includes setting up a testing architecture where the testing architecture includes a test IPM (300) machine having an output shaft (302) coupled to an output shaft (402) of a secondary speed control machine (400). The method further includes controlling the secondary speed control machine (400) to drive the output shaft (302) of the test IPM machine (300) at a first desired speed, determining a pair of desired direct and quadrature axis currents for each of a plurality of peak current magnitudes, and recording characterization data associated with each pair of desired direct and quadrature axis currents. The controlling, determining and recording steps for each of a second through nth desired speeds may be repeated. Control lookup tables for operation of an IPM machine (e.g., 300) may be generated from the characterization data.
