One method for reestablishing, with a client device, a signaling session associated with a call in progress includes monitoring an Internet protocol (IP) address of media packets received from the client device during a call in progress having an associated signaling session and detecting a change in the IP address for the device from the media packets, and wherein the signaling session is terminated. The method further includes, in response to detecting a change in the IP address for the device from the media packets, sending a notification message to the client device. The method further includes receiving a registration message from the client device to re-establish the signaling session.

According to one aspect, a method for source-aware IP routing at a media gateway is provided. The method includes providing a packet including a layer 3 source address and a layer 3 destination address at a media gateway having a source-aware routing table. Using the destination address included in the packet, at least one entry corresponding to the destination address is located in the source-aware routing table, where the located entry contains at least a portion of a source IP address, at least a portion of a destination IP address and routing information including an interface identifier and a next hop identifier. From among the at least one located entry corresponding to the destination IP address information, at least one entry corresponding to the source IP address included in the packet is located. Based on the routing information located in the routing table, the packet is routed to the destination.

In one embodiment, the method includes receiving a profile update request message from an application server to modify an Internet protocol (IP) domain subscriber profile. The profile update request message is forwarded to a home location register (HLR). A cellular domain subscriber profile is modified in accordance with the profile update request message. Similarly, an updated subscriber profile data is received from the HLR. The updated subscriber profile data is converted in the IP domain.
