    • An acoustic/ultrasonic detection system for detecting an object in a target area can include a signal generator configured to output an electrical signal. At least one acoustic/ultrasonic transducer can be configured to convert the electrical signal into an acoustic/ultrasonic signal, transmit the acoustic/ultrasonic signal, receive a reflected acoustic/ultrasonic signal from an object in the target area and convert the reflected acoustic/ultrasonic signal into a received electrical signal. The transducer is at least one of an air-coupled transducer and an electro-magnetic acoustic transducer. The system can also include an acoustic/ultrasonic antenna aperture operatively connected to the transducer and configured to focus the transmitted acoustic/ultrasonic signal to create a narrow beam in the target area, a processor configured to extract object information from the received electrical signal and an object indication device to provide an indication of a detected object based on the extracted object information.

    • A method for detecting hidden objects utilizes a plurality of electromechanical transducers including at least one electroacoustic pressure wave generator (88) and at least one acoustoelectric sensor (92) above a selected ground or water surface or a surface of an object located underground or underwater. Accordingly, the method is useful for detecting underground or underwater objects. Pursuant to the method, locations of the transducers relative to one another are determined, the pressure wave generator is energized to produce an outgoing pressure wave, and the outgoing pressure wave is transmitted through the selected surface. Incoming pressure waves are detecting which are reflected by hidden surfaces generally below the selected surface in response to the outgoing pressure wave. The incoming pressure waves are analyzed (38) to determine three-dimensional shapes of hidden objects disposed below the selected surface, whether underground or underwater. Various views of the hidden objects are displayable on a video monitor (58).

A first receive beamformer (R-100) is optimized for imaging modes such as B-mode and color resolution and wide bandwidth, while the accompanying second receive beamformer (A-400) has a wide dynamic range and is dedicated for use in acquiring spectral Doppler information, which is typically narrowband compared to imaging information.     • The present invention relates generally to a method and system for defining a reference sound position and producing an indicia proximate thereto in relation to one or more sound characteristics. The present invention, in one or more embodiments, provides for displaying a holographic image at a reference sound location which is determined in relation to the identification of one or more target sounds being associated with one or more identified sound characteristics.
