    • A bucket for an earth moving machine comprises a generally concave structure (32) and first and second side walls (34 and 36) located adjacent respective opposite lateral ends of the concave structure (32). The concave structure (32) together with the side walls (34 and 36) define a containment space (38) for containing a volume of material such as, but not limited to, particulate material such as rocks, sand, aggregate, or any combination thereof. The concave structure (32) has an upper region (40) at least a portion of which is configured to slope rearward to each side of a vertical mid plane V with reference to a loading direction D of the bucket (30). As a result of the rearward sloping of the upper region (40) to each side of the vertical mid plane V, if the bucket (30) were loaded to the extent that material within the confinement space (38) were lodged on the upper region (40), the material is most likely to roll, slide or otherwise move toward the side walls (34 and 36) and fall out of the containment space (38). A rock guard (48) projects over the confinement space 38 from the upper region (40). The rock guard (48) has a free lateral edge (49) that slopes or tapers in a reward manner parallel to the upper lip (46) and upper edges (42).

    • A UDD bucket for a UDD mining operation provided with multiple hoist connection points that alternative couple to the front and/or rear hoist lines. The UDD mining machine includes a control system that directs the movement of the bucket within a prescribed carry envelope to limit unequal wearing of the hoist lines or minimize the magnitude of rope loads. In one construction, the control system directs the movement of the bucket with a range of motion where the loads on the hoist lines are kept within a prescribed variance of each other during the carry phase or most of the carry phase of a digging cycle. The bucket will be moved by the mining machine with the inventive control system so that, in the carry phase, the loads applied to the front hoist line are within, for example, 5%, 10% or 15% of the loads applied to the rear hoist lines. This general equaling of the loads in the hoist lines results in longer wear life for the front hoist lines, and generally equal wearing of the front and rear hoist lines to enable simultaneous replacement. The alternative connection points enables the carry envelope to be altered.

    • A bucket for use with a cable shovel includes a shell and a door collectively defining a cavity for gathering material to be excavated. The door is pivotally secured about a pivot axis on the shell so that the door can pivot between a closed position for gathering the material and an open position for dumping the material. The pivot axis is positioned forward of an exterior surface of a back wall of the shell to create a shallower and less forceful door swing during dumping. The door has a front portion that is bent towards a digging edge on the shell so that the door has greater strength, improves bucket loading, and moves a portion of the shell away from the highest wear area.

The assembly in one embodiment includes a tooth and an adaptor end of a working member of an excavating apparatus. The tooth includes a cavity for mating with an end of the adaptor, an opening for receiving a fastening member and a fastening receptacle in the cavity opposite the opening in the tooth for receiving the fastening member. The adaptor includes a passage which aligns with the opening in the tooth and the fastening member. The fastening member passes through the aligned opening of the tooth, the passage of the adaptor and into the fastening receptacle for securing the tooth to the adaptor.
