    • The present invention relates to an apparatus for removing particulates from the gas stream of small-scale exhausts. Typically these small-scale exhausts would be the flue of a domestic wood heater or fire. The particulates contained within the smoke stream of a wood fire have been shown to be harmful to both health and the environment. It is therefore beneficial to remove these particulates at the source. The present invention is designed to be fitted to new wood heaters or existing installations with equal ease. The only technical requirement being the installation of a mains power source where required. The present invention is designed to be cleaned by simply removing the cap and replacing the collector electrode with a clean one. The removed collector electrode can then be cleaned as reused as a replacement.

    • A gas particle partitioner (10) removes particles from an aerosol (28) with high efficiency and with no or minimum changes to the thermodynamic conditions and chemical composition of the gas phase of the aerosol. A permeable grid electrode (24) surrounds a corona wire (32) and separates an interior corona discharge area (34) from an exterior aerosol charging zone (30). A particle free fluid (42) washes the corona discharge area to minimize any transport of gas components produced by corona discharge to the aerosol. The charged particles (44) in the aerosol are deflected by an electric field F in a fractionator (16) to selectively produce a particle free sample stream (46), which is then separated by a flow splitter (18) from the aerosol.

    • The invention relates to a device for cleaning gases, notably air, which in an air-tight housing (1) has several electrostatic filter units (11) arranged parallel to each other.
