    • The invention relates to an apparatus for continuously grouping or marshalling objects (1) together on a conveyor. The conveyor is divided into a first (2) and a second (3) conveyor section, where the second conveyor section (3) has a higher speed than the first conveyor section (2). The conveyor sections (2, 3) have a common plane (4) on which the objects (1) are advanced.     • In the manufacture of packaging containers, for example blown plastic bottles, a circular material blank is, in certain cases, fixedly welded to the end of a sleeve-shaped casing portion. It is advantageous from amongst other energy viewpoint if the welding can take place using ultrasound, but in this instance it has been proved that the central region to the circular blank absorbs ultrasonic energy to such an extent that it is deformed or breaks. A method of using ultrasound to fixedly weld a circular material blank (13) without such drawbacks occurring is proposed according to the present invention in that the oscillations caused by the ultrasound are reduced by a mechanical stabilisation of the central region of the circular blank (13), which is put into effect with the aid of a vacuum and a relief pattern (18) provided in the central region of the circular blank. An apparatus for employing ultrasound to fixedly weld a circular material blank (13) in place displays a counter abutment (12) with a work surface for fixedly retaining the circular material blank, the work surface forming a part of a vacuum chamber, and support means for the central region of the circular blank during the welding cycle.

    • The disclosure relates to a drinking straw for packaging containers of the type which contains a consumer-ready portion of, for example, juice or other beverage, and is often provided with an exteriorly applied drinking straw. The drinking straw is collapsible or compressible so as to take up little space on the packaging container wall and, prior to consumption of the contents of the package, the consumer has to manipulate the drinking straw so that it attains the lenght requisite for use. One method of storing the drinking straw which saves considerable space is to utilize a drinking straw which consists of two tubular sections (2, 3) with interconnecting end portions (4, 5). By using two tubular sections of the same diameter which are provided with specifically interconnecting end portions, the design and construction of the drinking straw will be rendered considerably cheaper and simpler. The interconnecting end portions (4, 5) display an area of reduced diameter and an outwardly flared portion, respectively, these being readily brought into frictional engagement with one another by the consumer.
