    • In signal-splitting equipment for multiple subscribers, circuitry is disposed on a signal-splitter card (32) which connects with a back plane (30) providing physical support and electrical connection to other splitter cards (32) and to distant sites, as well as to an interface (34) with a system (28) conducting automatic testing of DSL circuits. Each splitter card (32) carries a separate relay card (38) with signal-routing relay circuitry, the relay card being connected by means of a switching connector (44) having bypass circuitry which ensures normal communication of DSL signals and audio signals in the event that a relay card (38) is disconnected from its signal-splitter card (32). During testing of the equipment, the system operates the relays (RELAY 1,2,3,4) of the relay cards (38) of the respective signal-splitter cards (32) for connection of test equipment (26) to various equipment associated with a subscriber (12).

    • In a telephone communication system (20) employing a lower spectral band and a higher spectral band for communication of voice and video, wherein the system includes (20) a first line (32) for carrying signals at both the first and the second spectral bands and a second line (44) for carrying signals at only the second spectral band, and wherein capacitors (56, 58) are employed for connection of the second line (44) to the first line (34) for exclusion of DC at a signal splitter (24) of the communication system (20), the system (20) has a bypass DC signal path for an alternative connection of the second line (44) to the first line (32) in substitution for the connection of the capacitors.(56, 58).
