    • The application relates to UE measurement reporting and control of the reporting by RRC Connection Reconfiguration messages as specified by standard 3GPP TS 36.331. The "measurement object" as specified by TS 36.331 for inter-RAT GERAN measurements is a set of GERAN carrier frequencies whereas for the other measurements (intra-frequency, inter-frequency, inter-RAT UTRA, and inter-RAT CDAM2000), only one frequency is assigned per measurement object. Therefore, when the network wants to know the CGI of a newly detected GERAN cell, and modifies the measurement object to provide the "cellForWhichToReportCGI" with the PCI of the detected cell, the UE is unsure for which cell the network wants the CGI for, if the same PCI is used by more than one frequency. In order to avoid ambiguity, the application proposes different alternatives, which all have in common, that the measurement object, to which multiple frequencies are assigned, is modified. Based on this modification, the layer 3 filtering or measurement reporting is interrupted if the UE conforms to the 3GPP TS 36.331 specification. In order to avoid this interruption, the application proposes modify the section 5.5.2.5 of this specification, in that a "precondition" is added, according to which the UE skips (614) the modification of an existing measurement object (620) when the modification consists of only a modification of the parameter "cellForWhichToReportCGI".
