    • An internal combustion engine, especially for vehicles, with direct fuel injection and applied ignition, presenting at least one closed combustion chamber (10) located between the cylinder head and a piston which can be moved into a cylinder bore (12). Said chamber can be closed by at least one inlet valve (15) for air intake. In order to obtain a highly homogenous mixture formation during direct fuel injection guaranteeing reliable combustion of the mixture, a chamber (17) opening out onto the combustion chamber (10) is placed in front of said combustion chamber (10) at its upper end. The internal diameter of said chamber (17) is substantially lower than that of the combustion chamber (10) becoming considerably larger as it approaches said chamber. Fuel injection and ignition occur in the chamber (17).

    • In ignition coils (11) with a secondary connector section (17) moulded on their casings (13) which transmits the high tension to the sparking plug (18) and consists of a fixed connection dome (19) and a sparking plug connector (21) movably connected thereto, attention must be paid to the correct position of the sparking plug connector (21) on the sparking plug (21) when fitting the ignition coil (11) on the cylinder head (12). To this end the sparking plug connector (21) has an annular collar (33) on its outer wall by means of which a centring sleeve (34) is interlocked. The centring sleeve (34) is frictionally and positively secured on the sparking plug connector (21) by a radial broadening of the annular collar (33). The outer shape of the centring sleeve (34) is matched to the inner shape of a plug recess (20) in the cylinder head (12) accepting the sparking plug (18), taking into consideration a certain movement play, so that the ignition coil (11) with the sparking plug connector (21) so supplemented can be properly guided and fitted on the sparking plug (18).
